So, how can fandbois not help but be happy when something returns to as it was in it's prime......but the problem is what was in it's prime in 1971 is now passive and boring in 2011. Up the street they have,,,,harry potter, and further up they have new and exciting rolleroasters, and new engaging experiences. I personally would have liked to have seen a new polynesian type show...or really...get rid of the tiki room all together. It works at Disneyland, but I fear it will become as it was in 1997 in WDW,,,,a sleeper attraction It will become adventureland's carousel of progress...not because the tiki room or carousel of progress are inherently boring, but because TDO and WDI can not agree on preserving the integrity of the attractions and moving forward.

I've seen a document dating back to the mid eighties where ops was wondering what they could do to help the Tiki Room get more guests, as it was free falling in attendance. 2) The format of an AA show just doesn't seem to be popular in WDW. None of them in the MK garner much attendance. 3) I don't personally buy this, but people say the placement of the carpets hurts Tiki's draw. But if that's an excuse to get rid of the carpets I'm all for it.

I don't find Carousel of Progress or Tiki Room boring, but I know for a fact that I'm in the minority. You can see it a local movie theatre -- people have lost the ability to be a member of an audience. Talking to each other, letting their kids blabber on, texting, talking on their phones. At my local community theatre, we have to make an announcement to people to not text during the show. No kidding! So, it's no wonder that when people go into the Tiki Room, they expect the floor to open up and for them to be swallowed up by the Tiki God Pachouli.

It's dealing with the familiar, something you know and understand, it's simpler times (seemingly) or just fond memories of an occasion such as a family trip that went well. Quality could have been there, but that is not what your brain concentrates on. It focuses on memories. It sends you back to what you were then. In 1964 when the Mustang came out...it was a piece of crap. Under powered, road like a hay wagon, didn't handle worth a damn in anything other the clear, dry weather, but, nostalgia has taken over and the only memories we have are how cool it was. Ah, the good old days.

Again, it's the guest demographic. The ONLY AA show i have seen guests NOT walk out of is........Country Bears.

I'm really glad that your Tiki Room will most likely revert back to the way it should always be.

It was interactive before interactive was even the in thing with the corporate types. Where else can you sing like the birdies sing? : ) The problem of using nostalgia as an excuse to stop real progress has been very prevalent in DL since the 50th, when they first saw a real market for it. In the time since then, the park has seen the return of the castle walkthrough, Mr Lincoln, submarines (plus Nemo), and Captain EO (also the addition of the Dream Home to Innoventions, which is clearly derrivative of the House of the Future). It seems like no matter what they do in DL now, it will either have unneeded character additions to existing attractions (small world and Pirates) or simply be a revival of an old attraction. Given that the rumor mill continues to churn for how to make Tomorrowland be more like it's pre-98 setup, but I doubt that trend will stop any time soon. Good to see that both coasts are getting to share the joy now. : /

I cannot speak for Mr. Lincoln, but the subs were underway well before the 50th as, I am sure, most of the rest that was mentioned. Nostalgia is what it is. Soon the boomers, of which I am one, will be either gone or too old to participate and all of the young, non-nostalgic folks will have their way. At that point, especially if I'm gone, I doubt I will care. I suspect, however, that paving over our past is altogether beneficial for anybody.

Our thoughts tend to homogenize over time. What we think we remember really isn't what it was. For example, I was convinced that that song was by Spanky and O.G. I could actually see them in my mind singing it. I was sure enough that I was right that I posted that semi-joke. Yet, as clear as my memory was, I was wrong. Whenever I hear or read about how wonderful and perfect things were 20 to 30 years ago, I cannot help but wonder just how true it really is. When we were kids we loved the Teacups, now we get sick just watching them, but our memories will tell us it was great, we loved it. Oh, well, just the rantings of an aging man, nothing to see here, move along.
