From the outset, all we heard the first year was for TDS to do around 10 million a year and the resort as a whole do 25 million a year. By all accounts, its doing just that, obviously better now. Like I said, that 12 million a year EVERY year is amazing, but yeah I doubt it too. I been a few of those years where it felt like a ghost town. Granted, it was always in low season, but still. That said, if its doing at least 10+ million a year, I dont think they can ask for too much more. TDL has been around for decades now like the other MK parks, their reputation and attraction roster is pretty solid (NOT including HKDL ). But EVERY second gate park around the world has not done what the MK parks has done. Only two of them has even gotten close, Epcot and this park. In fact, I think this is the ONLY second gate park that even does over 10 million a year period since it sounds like Epcot does just about that every year and that park is 25 years old now in the most active resort in the world. TDS managed to become the biggest second gate park right out of the box. I mean, thats something . And then you got crappy second gate parks like DCA and WDSP that will be years away, hell maybe another decade of additions and capacity before they get anywhere close to 10 million a year, although if the changes/fix is sucessful with DCA, it may actually pass 7 million figure in a few years at least.

And while its an attraction, its still not a straight up ride, but was kind of my point. TDS hasnt built one real full on Pixar attraction yet and unless its something like Finding Nemo (which fits) I hope they dont for awhile. Pixar attractions are great, but we have mooore then enough everywhere else .

Unless you were to stake out the turnstiles and count the guests, other observations can be deceiving. In particular, the average number of hours spent in the park per guest has a *huge* impact on things like queue length, perceived crowdedness, and having to declare a sellout and stop selling tickets or admitting more guests. In particular, it's almost certainly true that far more guests at WDW have tickets that allow for park hopping than those at TDR. It's probably true that a great many people that are at the MK when it opens (especially on morning EMH days) do not stay until the end of the day, and wind up in another WDW park later in the day. At TDL, I suspect this happens only a small fraction of the time. If the average guest visit in the MK park is, say 7 hours at WDW and 10 hours at TDR, then you have a 42% increase in the average number of guests in the park at any given time even if the number of people through the turnstiles is the same.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***OLC were after another park that could match TDL in attendance*** I don't know where you get that impression. The press releases I read prior to the opening of DisneySea were that they hoped to attract 25 million visitors between the 2 parks. And in the very first year, that's exactly what happened. Now, considering the fact that TDL in its' last standalone year attracted 18 million patrons, it seems to be they would have to have either a) expected only 7 million visitors to DisneySea, b) expected that attendance at TDL would shrink as it did, or c) been lying about that 25 million number and rather be hoping for 35 million visitors a year or so (which would be accurate if what you say is true, that they were hoping for another park that attracted just as many visitors as TDL). Do you have any press releases or statements issues that support your claim here? I'd be interested in seeing them!

Let's not even mention the dire situation they may be looking at in Honkers where bus loads of Chinese tourists will be shipped in and all but forced at gunpoint to visit HKDL. That stuff is SCARY!!!!
Originally Posted By Mr X "And that's 25 million FULL PAYING guests, too!" Well, largely. But they do run promos at TDR as well. In particular, they have a nice rotating system of "resident discounts" in various locals throughout the Greater Tokyo area where residents can purchase discount tickets. But yeah, not too many 2fers or anything like that!

Has it gotten better with the newer additions, sure a little, but its still bad. I mean, what do you need to know? You see pictures of the place, you dont need to enter to know the place litterally has only a THIRD of the attractions of DL. It's like saying I have to shop at Wal Mart to know it isnt as good as J.C. Crew to even comment on it. Kind of silly. So yeah, you don't need to and don't do it anyway UNLESS you are in Hong Kong to see Hong Kong like I was the last two visits.

Originally Posted By Mr X ***But it obviously didn't suck after the first, second or third visit otherwise you wouldn't have kept going back. *** Never underestimate the idiocy of a Disney addict. When we were there together, I TRIED to get the dude to give up and leave...go into town for some beers or maybe to Macau for some blackjack...he refused to budge...so I bailed. Then, a few weeks later, he emailed me that he was back in the park again! (keep in mind, he was just as negative as I was the day we were there (and NO, I didn't walk in with a negative opinion or anything, but the lack of things to do and the "toonstyle" of the park did bum me out severely)...we spent most of the time making fun of the place together lol)
Originally Posted By WorldDisney <<But it obviously didn't suck after the first, second or third visit otherwise you wouldn't have kept going back. >> Well thats my point, I really wanted to like it and I DID try lol. The first two visits were actually the same week, just 3 days apart the first year it opened where I tried to get out as much of it is as I can and was still very dissappointed and I thought it would be the last. The third time was a fluke. I was 'stuck' in HK for several weeks and bored out of my head and decided to give it another chance. That was actually my worst time there lol. I was just soooo bored after 4 hours I told myself never again for a long time This was 2006. I had been to HK a few times since, but never bothered with the park. The last time I did go BECAUSE IASW had opened (and I dont even like IASW lol) along with the Autopia so I went again to experience those. Like I said, it was a little better but still bad. And honestly, until something new and BIG opens again I dont see myself going again for a long, long time. Thats the problem with the park for me. I cant see myself going just for the sake of going like the other MK parks. At this point, only if there is some new attraction opening up do I even feel the need and like I said at this point it needs to be something big and bold.

And I'm glad I stayed because I did love the fireworks . The more I think about it, thats actually now the big highlight for me there. Unfortunately you have to kill a loooot of time to wait for it .

Its crazy considering when I was a little boy going to DL, we would get there at around 8-9 a.m. and leave 1 a.m. when it closed then, 17 hours at this one park....and I STILL didnt want to go home by the end of it .
Originally Posted By Mr X ***I went again to experience those*** Autopia. And It's a Small World. ?? For real. Were those really incredible "experiences" when you rode them in all the OTHER Disney parks over the years? Dude...seriously. I worry about you.

I actually like it to . And no, I didnt go for Autopia really obviously since like I said, I been to HK since it opened but never bothered, but since I was there, sure!! Annnything to feel like you are doing something there ;D. I have to say though I liked it to, but yeah nothing special like the others.

(I'm starting to feel like I have to defend myself for going lol....kind of like I did when I admitted once I paid money to go see 'Scary Movie 4' ;D)
Originally Posted By Mr X *** I was already going to be there for a few days on the way back to L.A. The park was just a side trip at best*** Uh huh. Folks..WorldDisney wanders around HongKong in full Disney geek gear complete with Goofy ears headcap and a fake churro in his hand, and has been known to scream "LONG LIVE HONG KONG DISNEYLAND" while walking through the Tsim Sha Tsui subway station in the Kowloon district. Just an fyi.
