Many times I've looked at my husband after his performance and was like "wow" but what "genre" of music does he represent? Country? rock? soft rock? I seriously don't know. I just feel that his image may not be as marketable as others. Look at Ruben Studderd (sp?)? Where the heck is he?? I'm not saying I don't like Taylor or don't think he's talented, he totally is. But, for example, I loved Bo Bice last season was like OMG this guy is awesome, I cried like a loser when he lost and was like, OMG I need his album when it comes out....Then I heard his first single on the radio and was like, UUUuh, this is Bo Bice??? Clearly American Idol has them under their thumb big time once they "win" or at least come in second. If I had to pick who I would want to win at this point, I would want Taylor to win, he deserves to. His smile lights up the screen and he truly loves music and has remained consistant without cracking under the pressure, I just hope that if he wins his would be career isn't ruined by AI contracts and restrictions...Ruben, Fantasia...where are you????

Each of them has been easily categorized in various genres at various points in their careers. Remmeber, these are people just starting out. At one point, Madonna would have been considered "dance music". Obviously, over the course of her career, she's done all sorts of things, morphed into other genres.

Definitely. This show is essentially 'Star Search' cranked up several notches.

And again, not many LPers, or at least in this thread, follow R&B, but Rueben and Fantasia both have huge hits in that realm. The other side of that coin is that while I'm sure Chris has a promising rock career, I doubt his music will show up on R&B stations.

    1. Make a lot of money as a TV show by getting as many viewers the advertisers want as possible.
    2. Sell music, thereby making more money.
    3. Launch the career of a singing talent who wasn't signed to a record deal when the show started, thereby making more money by selling that talent's music.

Why in the world would the producers of the show send a more "popular" contestant home by fixing or skewing the results??? It is to their advantage in all three areas to have the most popular person win.

The "shocking" results are the result of voting patterns. People get lazy about voting for their favorite if they thing their favorite is safe, and they vote for their second favorite. Stuff like that. Where did Paris' votes go once she was no longer in the running? Maybe Daughtry's fans were preoccupied by something else on television that night after the Idol show ended.

    Who knows???

Like maybe Paris, Kellie and Ace's fans that continued to vote wouldn't go for Chris's style, more to Taylor or Elliot.

    As Phantom said, Who Knows?

Although I don't think the show is fixed -- I also don't buy into they have nothing to gain by voting off themost popular....sure they do -- look how much more main street news time AI has gotten this week due to the controversy ! If Katherine was voted off none of that news time would have gone to AI...

As for their purpose....simple -- to 1/ sell advertising time for that time slot - and the more people watching ( ticked off or happy) the more $$ per 30 seconds and 2/ link future singers with AI -- much like Josh Groban / Clay / Bo Bice etc....so that AI seems relevant to more people. I would go out on a limb and say Chris will sell more records than any of the 3 left-- whether it is with Fuel or another band... and people will remember he lost on AI.... btw I think the fact the perception is he got screwedover will play better with rock fans, which is his main audience.
