Nemo had slowed down in his older years and we all have tried to emotionally prepare ourselves for this day, as best as one can anyway. It is still hard.

I can only imagine what mom is going through right now.

Memories? We've got lots of 'em.

Oh how he loved to pretend to be vicious with that rope toy... That silly growling sound he would make while thrashing his head back and forth and how he would bear his teeth, pretending to be a monster, but he didn't fool anyone.

The eyes... Oh the eyes... And those most expressive eyebrows!

The "I'll lay down here after I've gone around in a few circles" routine.

The time over the holidays that I left the front door ajar and he decided to go for a little jog while we followed him, continually yelling his name.

The time I was teasing him with a banana -- here you see it, here you don't (hiding it under my jacket) -- and then he pounced on me and... Well... I sang falsetto for a while that day. Nobody said I didn't deserve it!

The time I went to visit him at the kennel during one of mom and dad's vacations. He was soooo happy to see me.

How sometimes I would let him take me for a walk around the block, and the way he would teach me how very interesting all the very uninteresting things were along the way.

How I would repeatedly "hike" him like a football -- a game the family referred to as "push."

How he would gallop across the linoleum at the old house, which had a wooden subfloor -- the resonance alone would make those unfamiliar with him brace themselves on something sturdy for the assault that actually would never happen.

    I'm really missing that guy.
