A couple years ago .. Al Lutz said to look out for some sort of Peoplemover inspiration for DL's Tomorrowland empty PM track. A bit miffed about that one though ... I don't know how the aesthetic of this film is going to translate with some futuristic peoplemover system, in the film. Much less some direct link to a DL Tomorrowland attraction.

And that's the key problem with Iger's strategy for the Company. He has practically eliminated any small projects that could be moderately successful, and focused entirely on big-budget ones. That means that the Comany can't afford to have anything that turns out 'just okay'. Much like how a theme park needs attractions of varying scale and scope to make a fun and full-fledged day, a studio needs to have films of varying scale and scope to have full-fledged success in the long term. But Iger's never looked at things long term, so why start now?

It really saddens me how mean-spirited this site has become. It's no longer "I hate that movie," it's degenerated into, "You are an idiot if you don't agree with me."

Yes, I said it. Go ahead and pelt me with clever put-downs; there are many here who excel at them, as you can see.

I am naive enough to believe a bunch of strangers should be able to have an online discussion without insulting each other.

I have often given my opinion of, say, Finding Nemo, but never have I impugned the intelligence of those who like it.

This isn't the quote, but someone asked if it was true that the film had to make 700 million just to break even, he responded with "don't believe everything you read."

If the film did indeed cost $250 million to produce, then it needs to earn between $500 million and $750 million to break even, depending upon the deal they've struck with the theater operators. And this figure does not include costs outside of production for marketing and promotion.

ORWEN: And neither would our dear basil fan. We hope John Carter on Mars is a success. We never even heard of him or his stories until the Disney company decided to make a movie about them. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

The good news according to the early critics screenings is that Stanton has delivered a fantastic film.

So if we can get one great film then I'm fine with that.

Hmmmm. If it's fantastic, I wonder what the disconnect is?

For me, there's never a moment where you can't see the actors performing in front of a green screen.

Which is odd, since so much of it was filmed on location in southern Utah.

Perhaps in a soundstage in Southern Utah.
