I agree with those who say it really seems more like HER decision than his - I think if she had asked him to drop out, he would have, but she really does believe he's the best man for the job (I don't know if I agree, but it's kind of touching that she believes it), and should carry on. I've also heard various doctors the past couple of days on the news shows saying that although this is termed "terminal" and will ultimately probably be the thing that takes her life, these days she could survive 20 years with it. If that's the case, I don't see anything wrong with continuing the campaign, and IF the cancer becomes more aggressive, reassessing at that time - no sense in assuming the worst will happen.

She's likely around 55 or so. So she will probably live a typical full lifespan. Medicine has done a lot with many cancers, if caught early and treated properly. It is not just an automatic death sentence. The worst thing to do if you do get it is to ignore it or sit around and think that you should just sit and home and wait to die. Because if you do, that's just what will happen.

Originally Posted By Dabob2 <Dear Dabob2 I am sorry but I don't know how to "link" things on a computer.> It's easy. You just find the article in which he said what he said, and copy the URL (http address) into your post here. <He was asked twice here locally (in North Carolina) while running for VP and He stated both times that if his poor wife had a relapse he would drop out. In all fairness he may have only been talking about that time and not for all times.> Well yes. Remember also that in 2004 he was referring to her breast cancer. This one is different. And it's important to remember that cancer these days isn't as simple as "you have it" vs. "you don't have it." Some cancers can be treated very effectively and the patient can live a long time, even if it eventually takes them. So even if he said he'd drop out in 2004 if her breast cancer came back, it's not really fair to insist he view a different situation in the same way. Also, having seen more of Mrs. Edwards over the weekend, it's even more clear that this was very much her decision.
