I think they have the "every faith is represented here" thing covered. Besides, that whole ground zero site is going to be a memorial site. The "Ground Zero Mosque" is two blocks away.

There were two women who were trying to make a big fuss about the Mosque and the firemen stopped her cold with comments about it being a community center, that muslims lost their lives in the 9/11 attack etc. I thought it was so cool. While in the Tribute Center what struck me most was not the vivid pictures of 9/11 or the stories. It was the walk around diplay of words and videos from survivors and people who worked and lived near the WTC. They discussed the diversity, the friendships, the unity of being a community there. They displayed pictures of muslims praying on the grass at the Center, of African dancers, Native Americans dancers, all kinds of cultural events that happen there. It should be a traveling exhibit similar to how the Vietnam Memorial Wall was. Most all New Yorkers I talked to that week had no issues with the Mosque. I left NYC feeling that most of them just want to move on and get back to being the diverse City they've been for all these years.

It's just a relative handful of very loud people making a fuss. Those who oppose it always say "the families oppose it," but it's only a pretty small number of family members who have made a stink. Others (who are interviewed FAR less frequently) have made it a point to say they have no problem with it, while the vast majority of victims' family members have never said a word one way or the other. (And next time you're in NYC, Lisann, let me know!)
