Also when many Canadian companies get bought they end up moving head office operations to the US. (Harmony etc). Canadians are also much more likely than Americans to cross the border for shopping/vacationing etc. Pretty much every Canadian has been to the US, can the reciprocal be said? Also in my experience you also want a "strong/similar" neighbour. Better the wealth close to you. (Ie. less illegal immigration/better border support/siding on same issues in UN/etc.) Like it or lump it Canada and USA are intertwined, similar founding. Also many Americans have Canadian relatives/ancestors and vice versa. Walt Disney has Canadian ancestors... Inventions have come from both sides of the border whether it's the paint roller, insulin or the zipper. Americans have prospered from Canadian ingenuity, and Canada has prospered from American ingenuity. Although I see that vb failed to mention jobs going to Mexico (Seems to happen a lot with say Auto parts)...

Potato - Pomme de terre Boy - Garcon VCR - Magnetoscope Bakery - Boulangerie Van - Camionette The UE is technically integrated.
