But never before have I encountered as many malfunctions on a Disney experience as my trip to WDW in 2006. On the flip side, we just got back from Efteling, and while not quite as ornate as Disney attractions, every effect on every attraction was working. This included a 150 year old steam carousel and calioppe. I am not sure Disney is capable of the quality maintenance we have witnesses at Europa Park, Phantasialand and Efteling this year. And there are a lot of apologists who seem to know no different and give Disney a pass. It is sad frankly.

One of my biggest issues with current WDW. This is a resort that use to be known for exceeding guest expectations and guest service in almost everyway. Guests would experience that guest service in a way unfamiliar anywhere else in the real world. Nowadays, I feel more like a 'guest' at any steak joint in the city or any nice hotel in a vacation spot. Those places have learned from Disney and adapted to Disney's old principles, while Disney has learned from the MBAs of outside business and adapted their old principles.

We stayed at a moderately luxurious hotel... and I found the level of service to be astounding, honestly. Compared to Disney's quality and price... I don't know why people spend that amount of money and time going to WDW when there are other experiences that offer more. There's also the issue of flying, too, but I think living 3 hours away by car has spoiled me... I really can't comprehend flying and spending a week in WDW! LOL

There are two tangible benefits to staying onsite as well - free parking, and access to the Extra Magic Hours. By themselves they aren't worth the higher price of Disney lodging. But as a total package when combined with the isolation from the real world, it's worth it to me.

I don't even do that, and I still balk at the price of tickets and food... It's more economical to go somewhere else for longer, in all honesty. Besides the subway ride we took on our museum day, admission to everything was free.

The theming and service are as good and in many ways better than the Disney deluxes, with no commercialism to pull you out of getting away from it all (modern Disney feels like they are hawking all the time).

Having said that, we will probably stay on property anymore, with the exception of the campground, because we find the prices very high for the experience we get. Also, over the past several years the resorts seem very frenetic. Not very conducive to just relaxing. Everywhere you go there are people rushing around to do something from the shops to the restaurants to the pool area.

But you guys have been back to Anaheim and I was sort of thinking, "Oh I wonder why I don't get an email from Kevin Yee." It's no big deal though! Years ago we were thinking about going to Disney World and decided against it, but if we did I would have probably contacted you and ask you to show me how to do Disney World right while I criticize anything and everything I come into contact with, haha.

He is evil I tell you ... and he HATES WDW ... Kevin, why don't you go to UNI and then there will be less of a line for us 'loyal' (yep, in joke there) WDW lovers to stand in line for Space Mountain for the 17th time in two days. ~GFC~
