As has been mentioned elsewhere, the WDW hotels also seem busy with people in a hurry to get somewhere. <<There are two tangible benefits to staying onsite as well - free parking, and access to the Extra Magic Hours.>> Free parking is a very tangible benefit--$14 a night. Add that onto the rate at even the Ritz or JW and you'll still be below the rate at a WDW deluxe resort. As for EMH...dirty little secret: every "VIP touring plan" is basically built around avoiding EMH. Three hours at the park with tens of thousands of others, without everything open--you're better off going the next morning, when it will much less crowded. (Enjoy your Disney insider tip...that will be $400 please...)

And as much as I love AK, if I could only pick one park I think it would be DLP and if I could only pick one resort, it would be DLR. Not one single park at WDW can be the only one and even as resort it would not be my top choice for the rest of my life. And this is only chosing from the parks I know, so excluding anything in Asia - as well as Efteling.
Originally Posted By danyoung >...it's also a lot easier to relax a hotel with true 4-star service.< True - if I was spending any time at all at my hotel other than for sleeping, I'd want to take advantage of that 4-star service. But my interest is definitely in the parks, and the close proximity of the Disney resorts is of great value to me. >As for EMH...dirty little secret: every "VIP touring plan" is basically built around avoiding EMH.< There are a couple of caveats to that. Evening EMH? Yeah, I agree with you, and I rarely take advantage of them. But that extra hour in the morning is really valuable touring time, especially in the MK. And it's almost never overly crowded, as people on vacation don't want to get up an hour earlier. It's only a problem later in the day, as the regular day crowd competes with the EMH crowd that's still there. But I almost always leave my morning park at around lunchtime, and then after a nice nap back at my hotel hop to another park for the afternoon and evening. So the morning EMH works great if you know how to handle the rest of the day.

If I had to choose one WDW Park, that's actually tough for me maybe Epcot that way I could drink. Of course I still love the MK(shocking and upsetting as that may be to some)so maybe I'd pick that then shoot over to the Poly.

For resorts, I am not even sure if WDW would even be on my top 10.
