I have a friend who is a vet tech and she looked at it and gave us some antibiotics to get through until we could get to the vet the next day. We took him in and they had to do the surgery for the drainage. He looked pretty bad for a couple of days after but now is a healthy lovey cat again (he is sitting with me as I type this) with no side effects.

He is an indoor cat but got out last week and was gone for 4 days. It was horrible so anytime they are in pain, it is just as bad.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

Looks like you're getting some good help and support here which is really cool, but in response to the causes of it:

I don't know if I ever told you about my first cat Dominic (haven't seen him in over 15 years), but I recall one time when we had him in Santa Ana. One morning a neighbor from down the street brought him over to our house I think. And one of his paws was swollen, it was kinda big (his paw). I'd never seen anything like it, this almost oversize paw. The neighbor I think suggested he could have been (as you suggested) bitten by an insect, stung perhaps. I don't remember how we treated it, but I don't remember it lasting very long - maybe not even into the next day. He was definately an outdoor cat though.

    >> Have any of you animal lovers had this happen to your pet before? I'm trying to get some opinions as to what it may be. I've googled for answers but it hasn't really narrowed the problem down, there are many different answers out there (infected tooth, allergies, infections from a wound, insect bites, abcess etc...), so I'm asking for your answers! straight from the wealth of knowledge here at LP! post your experiences, stories, and suggestions! <<

I wonder if there is a WebMD site for animals?

Good job looking out for your kitty though, Kira! Best of luck and let us know if she might need any prayers!

Her "sassy" personality has come back (meowing at me all the time once again), she is able to eat alot more, she has been running around the house nearly all day, and the swelling has gone down to just a tad bit of a bump now! I can actually pet her cheek and feel her "cheekbone" underneath the fur now as opposed to just feeling the abcess! I will probably post pictures of her sucess tomorrow when I am not so tired =)

The thoughts and prayers have worked wonders so thank you all! Sassy thanks you as well since she is now on my lap suddenly interested in my typing =)

And if you do have pets, please take them in for a teeth cleaning! I definetly have learned my lesson the hard way and will be taking sassy in sometime this week to get the chipped tooth extracted and have her teeth cleaned. I hope all of your pets have a safe and healthy christmas....of course the same goes for their loving owners =)

Do you two ever watch Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey together? ;)

Oh you know what, Kira? Yeah that's a great idea, but check around with like Petco or Pets Mart, because my Sister says they have a new kitty now too. And would like to take it to get it's shots. She said the vet is more expensive and Petco I think was cheaper, but maybe theres a good reason and maybe the vet has better trained staff (no pun intended) and use better products?

Oh also, there are treats you can buy at the supermarket that have tarter control.

Great to hear she's doing better!

It's a funny thing my Sister was telling me about her kitty, and why cat's behave the way they do sometimes. He's a lot like our first cat (Dom), likes to play rough. If they run up and try to play with your hand and you push them off, lol they think you're playing with them.

What a good Christmas gift to you that Sassy is back to being Sassy!

Good kitty thoughts still coming your way.

Here is a photo of her that I just took a few minutes ago (with my new awesome camera of course!) as you can tell the swelling has gone down to almost nothing!

She won't be such a happy camper when we take her in next week to have the tooth removed though!

Thanks again, I hope everyones furry pals are happy and healthy!

DJ7K, No need to be formal, after all we're almost related. A plain *Shiva* is more than sufficient. Sometimes Pirate Shiva if I'm in the mood to tease xPPx (like now)

as jason pointed out my kitty is doing 100% better and I am going to make an appt. for her to get the tooth removed this week before it causes any other issues! I'll definetly be digging this topic back up at least once more when that ordeal is done and over with. Sassy thanks you all for the kitty cat prayers and thoughts...they worked 100 times over! I was amazed that the antibiotics (and thoughts of course!)were able to heal the abcess =)

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? I have FOUR of them! Demanding little cusses, each with their own unique personality but we love them.
