    What they want us to see, is that the timeline where the plane lands safely in LA, isn't "what would have happened if the plane hadn't crashed." In that timeline, Desmond should have still been in the hatch pushing buttons, etc.

    This is a timeline of what happens if the bomb successfully went off in 1977. Dharma is destroyed, so people wouldn't have came and left the island in the same way they did before the crash. They might or might not have interacted with the Oceanic 815 people before the crash in the same way. Desmond might or might not have met Jack at the Stadium before he left on the boat trip. He might or might not have even taken it. When Locke said, "he went on Walkabout." He might have been truthful, although, in the original timeline he was denied the opportunity. Sun may or may not have learned English. Shannon, Michael & Walt weren't on the plane, etc.
