I think that need gets satisfied every time he rides the Popeye raft ride.

Lends new meaning to the phrase, "You may get wet."

I'll certainly wear a poncho when HE'S riding.

    Raises hand.

I've done that quite a bit, especially when I stay at Sunriver up near Bend, Oregon. Gorgeous place there. Normally raft the Deschutes in August when the air is 95 and the water is much colder. Talk about bracing.

But the difference is that the raft trip is the big E Ticket activity that takes up most of the afternoon. We prep for it, we dress for it, we pack specific meals for it.

When I go to a theme park a water ride is just one short element of an entire day. And I'm not about to wander around in public dripping wet; wet clothes, wet hair, wet shoes. I know there are people who can do that without hesitation, and that's cool if they can pull it off. But I don't enjoy it, nor do I feel it's appropriate to appear like that in public. I can deal with the splashed shirt on Splash Mountain or Grizzly, but when I see kids soaked from head to toe getting off Popeye's or Shipwreck Rapids at Sea World or that Jurassic Park thing at Universal Studios, I generally pass.

And a good trip down the Deschutes in Oregon blows anything found at any theme park water ride out of the water, pardon the pun. It's like comparing a real trip on the Space Shuttle to going on the McDonnel-Douglas Mission To Mars, even on one of Mr. Johnson's good days.

I disagree. It takes away any randomness or suspense. Plus; what Hans said.

And that's a perfectly valid response. You don't want to walk around soaked for hours afterwards, so you avoid the rides that do that to you. That's as valid as someone who doesn't like getting dizzy avoiding Mad Tea Party and similar rides elsewhere. A perfectly valid response.

It's not MY response. I like those raft rides, including Popeye. People are getting the impression I don't like it, but I actually like it a lot. I just wish it didn't soak every person every time, that's all. I don't mind getting wet, what I don't like is the lack of suspense in wondering if I will or not. But if I do get wet? Worth it to me - I like those rides. That's my response.

But unlike some people here, I understand that my response is not the only valid one.

Who wants to walk around feeling like they are going to barf for 3 or 4 hours afterward? And the sombrero ride at Knott's is 10 times better anyway. The DL version's storyline is weak and the thing is plopped right in the middle of Fantasyland, doesn't fit with the theme of the Matterhorn, and takes up too much space. I don't know what they were thinking"

Yep, that's what this discussion sounds like.

Just don't ride it if you don't like getting drenched. It's really that simple.

Would be pretty boring.

I don't feel like re-reading this whole thread, but I'm pretty sure no one said that they shouldn't have these types of rides AT ALL. Maybe someone did, but mostly what I saw were people claiming that they personally didn't like those types of rides, not that Disney should never build them.

I don't like the Teacups, but I certainly think it's a cute ride and understand why some people ride it.

They did build a park like that - EPCOT Center. And I loved it!! ;-)

Though I do understand why some found it boring.

Someone did suggest that water rides that drench riders shouldn't be in a Disney park.
