Hey Constance have you ever tried to bath a cat? You need a bathrobe and gloves lol.

Constance .... I grew up around water.
My mom couldn't get me out of the water at Huntington Beach or Bolsa Chica Sate Beach (the usual beaches during childhood). Or the backyard pools we had in the summer .. or the Slip & Slide in the front yard - couldn't get enough.

And when it comes to any one of the regions 4 water parks ... wild horses can't drag me out. I'm there till closing .. I love them.

The difference is .... Disneyland and DCA are theme parks with rides that call for dressing up in regular attire.

Then along came Splash Mountain and GRR ..and some idiots in Disney actually thought people like coming to a dry theme park go on what is mostly dry rides ... to get drenched to the bone on one ride ... and carry their wet body through 98% of other offerings that are dry.

There's something wrong with that logic.

A few sprinkles are a welcome. But this is ridiculous.

And when it comes to Water Parks ... I come fully prepared in the right clothing gear. The proper attire for getting wet.

When they mix them up ... it's aggravating as hell.

    And a miserable experience.

Hans, I know that not every Disney attraction has to be a spectacle. That's why I can justify 'Flik's Fun Fair' in DCA. It's cute, it's theme-d, it's sort of lame, but okay.

But over the years, I've come to expect that Disney will take an existing ride system, and plus it beyond what our expectations are. (see 'Splash Mountain' under 'log rides' and 'Typhoon Lagoon' under 'water parks').

As the iconic attraction in DCA, yes, I did expect Grizzly River Rapids to be the a 'river ride' but more. I expected to see AA animals, show scenes, some extra eye candy throughout the river, and a surprise or two. Why? Because that's what Disneyland has taught me for the past 30 years that I've been going to the park. And when they didn't do it, it's disappointing and seems a bit out of place.

Is there? Funny how those water rides are so popular.

Jim, did I not say that a few scenes would make it better? I think we are in agreement, no?

Some here have said that they simply don't want to get soaked to the skin, or even have to throw on rain gear just to experience a theme park ride. (something I agree with).

Even so, they're taking crap for it.

The rafts are not supposed to dispatch so that one raft gets caught in another's wake. That may have been a bug they worked out in previews.

It's possible you will hit a rapid JUST right and the water will go higher and go over the top. This is much less common, though, and again only affects part of the raft.

The part of you below the poncho can still get wet, but as DlDug points out, if you put your feet up and behind you, you can pretty much avoid this as well.

Now I've ridden it in colder weather, when they have the geysers at the end either off or down. Maybe those are higher in summer and get you wetter - I don't know.

Dean, as much as you may like IOA's theming, you wouldn't like the ride much if you hate getting drenched because, unlike GRR, they shoot water at you much more frequently and from all angles. A poncho won't save you on that one (though you'll keep dryER if you're lucky). But even with a poncho, you'll get plenty wet, every time. There's also no fun element of wondering who in your raft will get socked and who won't - you all will.

Not heavily articulated, expensive, Hopper-style, but simple BTMRR-style. That would have been fine. You'd see them fleetingly, as on BTMRR, but they'd really add to the experience. Bears (obviously), coyotes or wolves, raccoons, skunks, beavers, birds in the branches above you, etc.

And obviously it's not too late - they could always plus it with such critters if they wanted.

We're not complaining-- just saying we don't want to.

The number one word of advice for GRR is DON'T SIT NEXT TO THE OPEN DOORS! The water washes in through these.

That's possible, but I doubt it. I've been on it years after the previews, sans the poncho during a heat wave. I wanted to get wet to cool off, which I did. Same thing happened again, with a giant wave coming over the side, mostly above my head. A poncho may or may not have helped.

FWIW, I got thoroughly drenched on Splash once, in a similar situation after the down-to-up drop under the bear butt. I was sitting with a friend in the front of the log (pre-seating change), when a gigantic wall of water got thrown back onto us before the left turn. Everyone in the log got wet, but we got SOAKED. And I highly doubt a poncho would have helped much in that situation. Like the GRR incident during previews, that wave was enormous.

A lot of times i find that drop to be the worst. Another factor for SM is how heavy your log is! When i go on a log full of kids its usually not so bad. There have been other cases where i was in a heavier log and got drenched.

Its so funny how kids never care. I went on once at night time with a poncho and you see 40lb kids on the ride getting soaked and loving it. Kids never seem to be cold or even care.
