The mouse ears for that looked way more elaborate, and there was a plentiful supply. I still have about a dozen.

But you really don't think that group had any sort of impact on the Leap Day problems, do you? I don't think the rabid collectors are a big enough group to fill the park to capacity (which happened much later in the day). As a matter of fact, I don't remember hearing of any real problems on the morning.

Most of the huge crowd left after A) they got their hat or B) they found out there were no more hats. I can only assume when the supply was exhausted, folks trotted off to work only to return later in the evening. The park crowds were pretty light from about 8am to 5pm. Then it was maddening.
