I doubt some guy watching in Istanbul, Turkey is going to catch the White Chicks/Magic Johnson Theater reference no matter HOW much you translate it.

My point is every year seems to be some huge talent search for this show while the other 1100 award shows seems to find a suitable host 1 week before broadcasting or just found away to do without a permanenet host altogether like the Emmy's and the Golden Globes.

I just wonder why the Oscar host has such a huge prominence for this show versus all the others who call in some celebrity that week who isn't working or in drug rehab that week? ;)

I think part of it comes from the Academy Awards having such a long history and a reputation (right or wrong) for being more prestigious than any other awards.

I think it also reflects the memory of two outstanding long-term hosts from the past; Bob Hope and Johnny Carson. Maybe my old fart is showing, but no one has come close to the quality of those two with the possible exception of Billy Crystal.

What's to be "undecided" about?? NO NO NO NO *NOOOO!!* My friend at work and I learned that at work and were immediatley against that. How cheesy, degrading, and tacky that they're trying to make it "exciting" like a reality show---*ugh! Please, it's the Oscars, hello, it's exciting enough (if you're familiar with any nominees, I guess).

Did you catch Chris Rock's sarcasm when he introduced Jeremy Irons - he said something like outstanding comedic actor Jeremy Irons for which Jeremy replied "finally my work has been noticed." Jeremy was definitely on top of things. LOL!

Yes, WorldDisney, that's the monologue I'm talking about. ;>

Well, I know I can't be objective in deciding if Chris Rock was good for the Oscar's or not because I think he's this generations Richard Pryor - he is brilliant in my mind. He is edgy, hard core and sometimes brutally blunt mixed with saucy language but I love him!

I think Billy Crystal is a great host, most safe for all generations of viewers.

I don't think it was really the host that made it boring, it was all rather predictable.

I liked Letterman too. Coarse, I liked Whoopi. I prefer the ones that like to mix it up a bit.

BTW WD - why aren't you in WE anymore? Did I miss something?

The Oscars will be fun again when they stop taking themselves so seriously (Sean Penn).

The on-stage stuff was okaaay, I guess it gives a little extra recognition to people you don't generally see. The in-the-audience stuff felt a little too cheesy.

I think it is slightly funnier that way, but it is good either way.
