I don't know about the rest of you guys out there, but beards always seem like a very case-by-case basis, and that rule seems a little strict for many cases. For me, I would guess that it would need to be closer to 1/2" before it looks like anything more than waking up late and rushing to work. Then again, I don't really think that anybody will actually measure your beard (great mental image there), so I don't know how much of a problem it will be.

    >>I know of several imagineers that will be heaving a sigh of relief now the company approves of "beards".<<

I've noticed in many recent online videos that a lot of Imagineers are sporting facial hair, onstage in the parks with their nametags on ('in costume'). And from my understanding of the general crowd over at WDI, there's really no need for the other kind of beard...

    Tomorrowland
    Main Street USA
    Fantasyland

And I would prefer CMs who work in those lands ... to keep up with a more clean-cut image.

What this is going to do though .. is it's going to open up an entire Pandora's Box! Because there will be castmembers who will let their beards go just a little too long. It only takes a few days of "forgetting" to trim it ... to look out of place.

And is there going to be a set of "Beard Police" who will be measuring every male CM coming through the gate?

There's too much wiggle-room/gray area ... where beards will end up just a little too long.

I think the simple answer .. Is ...

Avoid the "gray area" complications that WILL end up happening ...

And just maintain the same rule that has been working for 57 years!

It's not broke. So don't fix it!

No cause that just means the managers (at least at WDW) would have to WORK.

I don't think beards would be out of place on Main Street. Many men in Turn of the Century America had mustaches and/or beards.

I never said it was bad. However, stylistically, what constitutes a "clean cut" person has changed since then, and it appears Disney is trying to reflect that---which I appreciate.

I suppose it's akin to (actually, more of a caricature of) 18th century styles. It wasn't bad per se, but if I were to wear a white wig and powder my face as polite societies once did, I might be asked update my wardrob . :-D

Nope - just the same folks who currently tell CMs that their hair is too long or their jewelry is too garish. It will always be something of a judgement thing.

And if Main Street represents turn of century America, then I'd say handlebar mustaches are appropriate like in that Heineken ad.

So this isn't a Pandora's Box? I've already popped the popcorn and was anxiously awaiting the drama.

"I've actually been thinking a lot about the 1/4" part of this standard."

    Why?
