Opening a third gate or water park will get people to spend more money, but the idea that it's going to alleviate crowding at the existing parks? Sorry, but no. In Florida, the four gated parks, and two water parks all manage to get pretty crowded, despite eachothers existence.

I looked at my premier pass which i bought last year and i had 12 days on it which was for a couple DL trips and a WDW trip.

I am more alarmed with the price for the Disneyland Hotels and can not believe anybody can afford to stay there. At least WDW gives different levels of affordability for families. DL is currently asking 275 plus tax and resort fees for Paradise Pier per night with AP discounts. Maybe it is cheaper with the packages ...and length of stay. Does anybody know?

Every time I have said the same thing I have been told by posters on this board that $300 a night for a hotel room is perfectly affordable for middle class families.

" I seriously dont get it either! For someone like me who travels a lot the $300 a night room can be sacrificed so i can go on another trip. I dont know why DL doesnt have one moderate hotel at lease to choose from? Also, i think the WDW hotels are a lot nicer, spacious and probably worth the money more than the DL hotels. Thats just my opinion though.

(said for emphasis) I don't think I could sleep knowing that is what I was paying to lie down. Just can't wrap my head around that.
Originally Posted By Dabob2 "I dont know why DL doesnt have one moderate hotel at lease to choose from" They really don't have to. With only 3, which all have excellent occupancy rates, it makes sense for them to charge whatever the market will bear. Besides, unlike WDW, DL has moderate hotels literally across the street, easy waking distance. True, they're not Disney-owned. But if you want to stay some place reasonable and still walk to the parks, you can do that at DLR, unlike WDW.

I think it all depends on what one expects from a resort hotel while vacationing. The level of service, available amenities, and convenience are important to me when I'm vacationing, even if it's at DL or WDW.

They're offering an alternative, it just happens to be one with fewer perks and greater distances (in some cases) to get to the parks. Yes, you're missing some of the "Disney Magic," but it IS a choice. Given how many other choices are out there for staying near DLR, it's amazing they even do that anymore, rather than just hype the heck out of their own stuff. They must still make enough money on the good neighbor deals to make it worth their while. 8)

I know if they had a hotel that was moderatley priced, or value, I would pick that is a second over the ones on Harbor. I can't really afford or justify the higher priced ones very often, but I still want the Disney experience. Seems there has to be plenty others like me.
Originally Posted By fkurucz >>I dont know why DL doesnt have one moderate hotel at lease to choose from?<< My guess: the high cost of real estate in Anaheim. After Disney paying zillions for the strawberry fields I would expect nothing less than a pricey hotel to be built there (especially since they seem to have no problem filling them). For those of us on budgets, there are the chain motels on Harbor and Katella (which suit me just fine)

My entire trip (gas, food, etc.) will cost me less per day than just the hotel rate at a Disney property. I can't justify that in my mind. Don't mistake - I have splurged once in my adult life on the Disneyland Hotel, which was a few years back when the offered stay three nights, get two free. It was still pricier than my normal haunts on Harbor, but not 4x the price, so I went with it. One day, I will stay there again...
