For me, I guess I really didn't see the problem with just having the geodesic sphere as the icon. It's not like you're going to confuse it with other geodesic spheres that are icons of other theme parks.

Castle easily seen going North or south on interstate 5. How ugly is that for landmark? Yuck.

Ahhh. Great taste! Taking the Ferry to the Magic Kingdom, see the park get closer, the castle growing bigger, the wind at your face, is one of Disney's greatest and most under appreciated theme park moments. Next time at WDW...do take the Ferry!

I think you need to make up your mind. First its a puny tinker toy doll house. Then its a huge eyesore visible from I5. Which is it?

I'll be out there this Christmas, so I'll see for myself. I have very clear images of the Matterhorn from the freeway, but I can't come up with a smidge of the castle from that view.

I must have missed the memo. when did "icon" become a synonym for "huge" (or any specific size for that matter)?

But that's what makes it so fun! I love hitting the ferry first thing in the morning. As people are cramming onto the crowded monorails, I'm enjoying a leisurely boatride across the Seven Seas Lagoon. And I still manage to get to the MK before it actually opens, so why hurry?
