But they were very glad to see a movie that WASN'T Justin Bieber. Tron might have done better coming out about now, I think. Kind of the anti-girl response for the tween boys.

That's funny - I've always loved that movie, but thought the actual animation was pretty bad too. The voice cast and songs are all great - would love to see someone re-animate this one with the original soundtrack. (Same goes for The Last Unicorn - another guilty pleasure of mine!)

    This.

Some of the Sherman Brothers' very best work is in this movie. Great story. Fabulous voice cast. And Hanna Barbera animation.

And if you ever spot a copy of the soundtrack album, grab it. GLORIOUS stereo sound on that sucker, even though the movie audio itself was dull mono. Gatefold cover with a popup barnyard too (which you'll NEVER find undamaged).

Anybody remember Hanna Barbera's followup, Heidi's Song? MAN that one's lousy.

PS ... Wha'appen to Touchstone? I am disappoint.

Several dandy moments: the jogger in the alley, the guy in the thong raising his hand, the kitty lawn mower, the 2-D animated overlays, the flamingo...

But I didn't expect the Elton john songs to be established songs. Thought we'd at least get the Lion King treatment. As a true non-fan, I found this to be a drawback.

I thought the flashback was extremely poignant. May have to try this film a second time.

It's not entirely devoid of amusement, but it just doesn't have enough "stuff" to fill a movie with. The story is slight, cliched and half-baked. The characters never connect with the audience. The gags miss more often than they hit, although they do hit occasionally.

In short, it's not intolerable, but if Tangled or Megamind are still playing, you'll have more fun going to see them a second time. A few theaters are also currently running a program of the Oscar nominated animated shorts - you DO need to see those if possible.
