:). I was talking with an ex-Imagineer about the lack of opening-day attractions at HKDL, and the first thing he said was pretty much what you said above, that research shows that Chinese people like to spend time in gardens. So there's no doubt in my mind that this is the mentality at work within WDI, or at least one of them. I guess we'll know in a few weeks how it all turns out.

Westsider not sure where you got this figure from but it isn't any press release I have seen or read about HKDL.

The other issue to consider is the huge throughput of the dining facilities. They have thousands of seats across the park and are expecting heavy traffic through them.

I'll be intrigued to see how the attractions are perceived by guests. Early indications are that many HK-ers go to walk around, eat, shop and meet the characters. Wait times were not excessive during the first week of previews.

Actually the popularity of Fantasy Gardens is their biggest worry. The area will be closed if the queues get too long to meet the characters.

HK-ers have tiny apartments and are embarrassed about entertaining at home. They hire restaurants and meet their friends elsewhere. Research has shown that they love gardens and fanciful areas. Disneyland is perfect for this. The city has a fairly high average disposable income and so I do really think locals will go just to spend the day outside the house.

This brings up another question. Do the residents of Hong Kong have the same views of attractions as people from Europe...meaning if it's not visible outdoors, they don't know about it?

The 30,000 number is in a long list of statements and press releases from the Park in the last year. Esther Wong, who is the official HKDL spokeswoman, has rattled that number off to a growing list of media outlets in Asia. It's so oftenly quoted now that government officials from Hong Kong are now also using it in statements to the media.

Here's a list of links I just found on Google, all with official statements from Disney or quotes from Esther Wong mentioning the "attendance cap" of 30,000 per day and the importance of purchasing your tickets in advance of your arrival at HKDL:

After TDLFAN's response, I just couldn't resist. I realize that we're all sensitive to different things. I tried to send you a PM but you don't have an email address listed in your profile.

Well...when you have a Prez who does not believe in those attributes, what's the rest of America going to do??? I wonder if you are as upset as many when many of our leaders go around saying..."God Bless the USA"? Well? Are you? Same difference.

That's all. And I am sorry of the previous post came off as harsh...I have problem with controlling my own tone in this context. I'm not trying to be all indignant or anything...

I do not always suceed or am perfect, but I do attempt to be kind. In hindsight, it may have been more appropriate to as WorldDisney to reconsider his use of this phrase in private vs using a public board. So, WorldDisney, my apology for not asking privately, and everyone else, I am sorry you had to read it.
Even though Laughinplace community standards do not agree with me, I still prefer differently.

Here is my response from Doobie on the matter:

"I understand your feeling on the subject and I personally don't use that
phrase, but LP reflects, to some extent, the larger community and
unfortunately "Jesus Christ" like "Oh my God" and other similar phrases
are not considered problematic to the vast majority of people.
Therefore, it is permitted on our boards. I'm sorry if you disagree, but
    that is our policy.

    Doobie."
