Even considering this was pre 9-11, you'd think it would have occurred to the guy that bringing a weapon on to to a warship berthed at a military base would be a bad idea, but apparently he didn't see a problem with it...

Yes, MANY links. It's called "The Google". Even GW Bush knew about it.

There's this belief about the hardcore gun nuts that the government is trying to take their guns away, you keep pulling stupid crap like this and guess what's going to happen?

This is a feature, not a bug.

    He wasn't?

I would say he wasn't intentionally dangerous, but just the fact that he was careless enough to leave a loaded gun on a ride where it was entirely possible that a kid would have been the one to find it and pick up makes him dangerous.

That is the problem with some of the very paranoid "I have to have my gun on me at all times for protection" people...they may not mean to hurt anyone, and they may see themselves as the good-guy-cowboy-who-is-going-to-save-the-day if something does happen, but there is a very real possibility that an accident (like this one) or some misunderstanding will happen and someone will get hurt. That is why people carrying guns around a theme park is such a bad, and dangerous, idea.

I feel like we've had a false sense of security all these years and with all the recent happenings we're not seeing any improvement in security. Then again, I'm not sure if metal detectors are the answer either.

To me, a person that brings a pistol to a place like WDW has some serious problems or feelings of grandeur. Either one requires some serious medication. They vision themselves to be a hero in the event of a problem. In many cases they create the problem, but, that's another thread for another time.

At the very least it shows that they are not capable of clear thought and massively incorrect judgment.
