How ridiculous.

Larson notes that only forty-five homicides occurred from 1870 to 1885 in the "fabled towns" of Abilene, Caldwell, Dodge City, Ellsworth, and Wichita, only 0.6 killings per town per year (p. 41). From this site (<a href="http://www.neto.com/rcr/bangun.html" target="_blank">http://www.neto.com/rcr/bangun.html</a>): The experiences of Aurora and Bodie were repeated throughout the West. One study of Abilene, Ellsworth, Wichita, Dodge City, and Caldwell, found that all together the towns had less than two criminal homicides per year! A study of the Texas frontier from 1875-1890 found that burglaries and robberies (except for bank, train, and stage-coach robberies) were essentially non-existent.>> Not that I approve of what the idiot in the AK did because I certainly don't. But as we've seen over the years, Hollywood tends to modify reality to be whatever sells the most tickets.

But I think it's probably not a very wise idea to leave them in a car, where they can possibly be stolen. This is the problem when someone starts wanting to carry a gun around all the time. To do so safely, it takes constant attention and care and diligence. It's more responsibility than many people can handle.

In fact, a teacher at my daughter's school was recently suspended for having a gun in his car at school. And as a matter of fact, I am not ok with that teacher having a gun and ammo in his car at school. Nor am I ok with some idiot carrying his gun into WDW and leaving it on a ride.

I learned three rules about weapons from my time in the military: * The reason you have one is because you expect to be in a situation where you'll have to kill (not wound someone or scare someone off). * If you've got one, you need to learn how to use it properly, and you need to treat it with a lot of care and respect. * If you can't or won't abide by the two rules above, you have no business having a gun.
