The Submarines always had too frequent problems with kids and potty needs, plus occasional nausea, etc. When a sub has one of those problems, it has to remain empty until it is cleaned up. Well, with a ride that is close to double the length (in time), and lines that will be longer than they perhaps ever had been, I suspect these problems could become very, very frequent. We'll have to see. Perhaps while they dig up the whole area, they should install restrooms somewhere and allow folks to step out of line and right back in again to, ahem, 'prepare' for their undersea voyage?
Originally Posted By FerretAfros I hope that the additional ride length does not affect capacity as much as I think it will. Part of what limits capacity is how long it is between when subs arrive at the dock. With a slower speed, this time will increase, and lower the already too low capacity. Perhaps after a few weeks of testing and running it (even after the opening) they will see a problem and speed it back up. Although people would miss out on some of the details, I think it would be better to leave them something that calls them back that they missed the first time, than leaving them in an atrociously long line that never moves (as opposed to an atrociously long line that ocasionally moves).
Originally Posted By Darkbeer Actually, abit slower will not slow down capacity that much, the key is to have one of the 8 subs dispatched about every 17 minutes. At the current reported "slower" speed, all that will do is eliminate a back up in the last scenes. If you load in the front sections, and empty in the rear, and that the process takes to 2 to 3 minutes, you should run at about maximum capacity per hour. Based on the final show scene, and the need to keep moving thru the last scene, you only have one "empty" space between the exit of the caverns and the loading/unloading dock. I know that they have done the engineering and the math to keep the ride running as smoothly as possible and as high as capacity as possible.

They are not completely free floating, but use the boyancy as a way to lift off the bottom of the track in order to use less power to move them around. That's why they needed to fill up the lagoon a few months ago to move them out of the caves. Although they could have theoretically done it without any water, it would have been exponentially more difficult.

The only way to move the Subs or the Mark Twain is the prop or paddle wheel, respectively. There is no power to the tracks at all, hence no way to move the vessels without the water, unless by crane. The only thing the tracks do for either of these vessels is stear them on their predetermined course.

I also got an e-mail from a maintenance person on Wednesday letting me know that the Mark Twain was going to pulled off the river on Friday due to my photos in Al's update on Tuesday. So multiple sources confirm that the Mark Twain was pulled, and the ONLY thing that was done was address the major wood rot on the starboard side. They also repainted the Dumbo Organ Refurb Walls due to the photos. But yes, the Pizza Port refurb was previously scheduled.

I guess it works for the "activist" websites to spin it this way, but there isn't a whole lot of truth to it. I recommend the folks who like to criticize maintenance management go out and get a job in this field for a few years to learn how it really works. There's plenty of ideas passed around on some of these sites that leads me to believe that no one has a clue about the realities of facilities maintenance, schedules, and everything else related to those subjects.

Do you think I just came across the epoxy repair? Or do you think I was given a heads up and to stop by and grab a few photos? And why was ONLY the repair made to the few planks on the Starboard side? The Mark Twain should be on the river today, and I plan to stop by the park today to show the finished work....
