I think the way we treat disabled people in this country incentivizes them to stay on the public dole and not overcome their disability. It's not the assistance, it's the limits placed on it that incentivize people to strategically place themselves in this balance where they reduce work hours to maximize benefits. I would raise the limits of what you could earn while on SSI higher and at some point just let them write it off on their taxes instead of making it some monthly payment. Then again there are many on disability who should not be on it. I think a disabled person who resorts to this does so because we have made it so that it's too damn expensive to hire them. You can't ask a prospective disabled person about their disability. You are not allowed to let them explain how it's not going to affect the work. You have employers running scared by the Americans with Disabilities Act, which I believe actually reduces hours worked by disabled people. The whole thing is ass backwards, which is why this story, if true, doesn't really get me to grab the pitchforks. It's liberals who think they know what's best for the disabled and just want to engage in class warfare. I see the disabled as taking advantage of the rich jerks because I don't think you get that much when you're disabled at Disneyland. Is it truly a front of the line pass? I doubt it.

So you get stuck in those crappy jobs.

The policy was created for families not for tour guides. Completely different. Other than that, I have no problem with a Orlando based tour company hiring disabled individuals.
