Why couldn't they have written an original story for Disney's first black princess that didn't have to ride on the coat tails of an existing fairy tale?

It's a children's book much like Cinderella. Though the events are very different; it would have translated well to the big screen and animation.

Mawnck, anyone other than you and I'd have been concerned I was about to see Kevin Costner's face!

I find it surprising that they've picked Disney's Robin over this one, but as I say Disney's RH feels like part of most people's childhood here. It's almost part of our culture!!!

Pcoahontas is one of my favorite Disney films, and it's ranking bothers me. I agree that, though it has its historical problems, it's a truly beautiful movie. Gorgeous animation and character design, and I've always loved that it has a more mature air to it than most Disney films, especially with it's not-so happily ever after ending.

I consider the ending of Pocahontas my favorite out of all Disney films. Sometimes a sad conclusion makes you feel so much more than a happy one does, because you can usually relate so much more. Plus, that scene is so well done, especially the way the score swells as Pocahontas runs to see the ship. Just watch that ending scene on Youtube if you haven't seen it in a while. IMO, it's one of the most moving moments in animation. It feels real.

I still mantain that if the deleted song "If I Never Knew You" had been in the theatrical version, the film would have done better. It makes everything more effective.

101 Dalmations' ranking was a bit suprising as well. Maybe I should watch it again.......?

I so agree with this! I remember the first time I saw that segment - which they showed in rough animation one time Pocahontas was on tv - and it just really made me fall in love with the movie. It really helps make the love between Pocahontas and John Smith more poignant. And then when they added the reprise to the ending scene when they say good-bye - talk about tears! ;-)

I think the reason they cut it from the movie was because the children squirmed in their seats when it was played to a test audience years ago. The producers at the time worried that if children didn't accept it, it should be cut. But it IS a shame. It's the prettiest song written for the whole movie as far as I'm concerned.

Anybody catch Rotten Tomatoes' description of Dinosaur?

"...its stunning computer animation and detailed backgrounds are enough to make it worth a look."

Detailed backgrounds? They were live-action, guys.

What I still find incredible about Dinosaur is how good the CGI still looks. It always seems like you can tell what's real and what's fake by the lighting. CGI just tends to look pale and plastic-ey in comparison. It's gotten a lot better in the last 2-3 years, but you can still pick it out pretty easily. Most older uses of CGI look really bad by today's standards (like Waldo in MuppetVision), but it seems like the effects in Dinosaur have held up quite well. Yah, some things are better than others (the lemurs all look a little off, and the cave scenes aren't quite right), but it's pretty impressive how good it looks overall.

It starred Richard Todd and was very good--much better than the animated nightmare they produced years later.

Lilo & Stitch scoring higher than Alice in Wonderland? Who do they think they're kidding? Truth be told, I found it to be quite funny, but there was one part with some live action that freaked the bejesus out of me.

Treasure Planet higher than The Sword in the Stone? Robin Hood at #46? As if!!! Both those films should have scored higher!!
