The original Living Seas was always a bit underwhelming and I never felt up to par with the other Future World pavilions.

I visited EPCOT Center for the first time in Spring of 1986, and was absolutely blown away. Remember when Disney wasn't afraid to have a theme park where the Disney animated characters weren't front and center all the time? That was awesome.

Well, at least tehy didn't decide to do soft openings just after I left, but are having the decency to wait a few days. hehe

It blew my mind then ... the scope was so amazing. It is still pretty confined to the character meet 'n' greets in World Showcase and a few offerings in Future World like Circle of Life at the Land. The Living Seas is the only pavilion to really get a character overlay and quite frankly it needed it. Guest just weren't interested in it by the mid-nineties. Characters are a way of engaging the guest. Rio at Mexico has always been a terrible (and largely stereotypical) impression of the country and adding the Three Cabs will work wonders for the energy of the attraction. It won't detract from the rest of the pavilion but give people a better insight into Mexico and its culture.

Actually, I'm not TOO terribly surprised that they're having issues - after all, it was originally due to officially open (i.e., real opening, not soft open) on 1 october, and that's obviously been pushed back at least a few weeks, if not longer. And, I *wish* I could get Eric back, but I think next year will be cruise-only for us. Disney cruise, of course, but no park visits with my sweetie. BUT, my buddy Terry and I are planning to book a long weekend once we file our respective tax returns. And, cool thing about that is that once he & I return, every one of the folks I've taken with me to WDW will have returned.

And don't they do a big meet & greet at opening? Pretty sure I was there for that on one of my trips last year, though I of course entered no parks prior to about 10 or 11 am on this trip - soo trippy to not set an alarm on vacation! OOO! hehe Anyhow, as for TLS - it is absolutely AMAZING what the overlay has done to it - crowds nonstop in there each time I visited this trip! WOW!

The pavilion could have been freshened in so many different ways, including a few plans that WDI blue-skyed and were quite amazing. Overall, this is cheap and easy.

But all other areas have also seen a huge surge in traffic from what I've seen. I would never wait in that long line for a brief interaction with a turtle, but I do enjoy the revitalized displays. Now if they can just get the water in the main tank cleaned back up to its former aqua-marine beauty. Oh, and maybe add back some fish - the population isn't near what it used to be.
