Like if Universal had released the blueprints for Potter would be one thing. A fan posts the blue prints for potter a whole different ball game.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if a more detailed fly through is posted on the Disney Parks Blog eventually.> I agree. It seems deliberate in the sense of "Check this out. Isn't this cool? And it's just the most basic overview with hardly any details! Just wait till the more detailed work comes out. Oooooh, that'll be sooooo cool. You just can't wait for that, can ya'? CAN ya'??!"

From everything we've seen so far it's obvious that the scale, storytelling, and thematic elements will be every bit as strong as HP.

But thematic detail is still not a given. I know that you haven't been to Potter, so I'll cut you a break, but the level of detail is really over the top. Just the rockwork on Hogwarts is mind boggling. Warner Bros. made them tear out sections of the rockwork repeatedly to get it just right and it is amazing. It makes the rockwork on Everest a total embarrassment. Every surface in Potter is themed. No stucco to be found anywhere. Every inch is themed. Now, carsland may be different, but I haven't seen Disney go to that level in the US since EPCOT Center hit the scene.

One of the biggest blunders Disney made with creating buzz for DCA back in 2000-2001 was that it failed to control the message. Allowing the Internet fan community to completely control all the dialogue, which set the negative tone for how the public viewed the place, was a huge misstep. The manner in which the DCA expansion project has been handled from a PR standpoint has been pretty much flawless.

By inviting the public into the process, with little video sneak peeks, sketches, Blue Sky Cellar and more, it helps whet the appetite for Carsland, helps build anticipation. And for what it's worth, this flythrough gave me a better sense of what will be where in Carsland. I can imagine people wanting to have their photo taken in front of the Tower o' Tires. It's pretty clearly not what the ultimate finished product will look like in terms of details, but is helpful at starting to flesh out the feel of the place. The more of this kind of thing, I think, the better. Reminds me of Walt showing the model of Pirates and explaining some of what we'd eventually see on the ride. Good stuff.

The work in WWoHP is pretty flawless, although they fell down a bit around the edges. The rock work on Hogwarts should have been continued out to cover the whole show building-- or at least where it is visible inside WWoHP. The level of detail on what has been completed at Carsland is easily comparable. I've driven through the southwest, and the matching color and texture in the Cadillac Range is just amazing. Some of the buildings are starting to take shape, as well, and they are looking just like the structures sen in the film. What is open for debate is which one people like best. Hogsmeade and Radiator Springs are very different places. Forbidden Journey and Radiator Springs Racers will be very different experiences. But comparisons will be inevitable. Personally, I expect that I will find them to be comparable in scale and execution, based on what I have seen.

So forgive my skepticism, but Disney for the last decade has REFUSED to take it there. And if they do, would be very encouraging for the future. I do know that the fit and finish of the Mermaid facade and load area is fantastic. Which is a great sign.

And stuff like not only did they texture the walkways with cobblestone, the cobblestones have a fake foundry mark. I am not expecting that kind of detailing in Carsland given the nature of the animated textures. What I am interested in is RSR and how it takes the test track tech to the next level of real storytelling. What I can say about Carsland and the recent additions and what Disney really wants to hear is that I WILL be bringing my kids Late summer 2012 to see it. That says a lot since I don't make a lot of money and live 10 miles from WDW. I haven't been to DLR since 2002 anddeclared I was not going back until they fix the place and I am keeping my promise.
