This is either the most inspired decision in recent WDAS history or will be a disaster. I gather Jennifer Lee worked in publishing - as a publisher and not a writer - and has no animation or movie experience whatsoever except for her work on Wreck-it Ralph. I honestly can't remember a similar situation ever at Disney.

I thought Pete had written the screenplay but I'm told it is an Arndt project. I was originally told it was inside the mind of a boy but it now seems to be about a young girl and how she handles her life at school and home. It all sounds very Cranium Command to me.

Do you know something about the rumor that Glen Keane is working in a new hand drawn animated movie with James Baxter at Dreamworks?
Originally Posted By leemac <<Do you know something about the rumor that Glen Keane is working in a new hand drawn animated movie with James Baxter at Dreamworks?>> I don't believe that is true at present - Glen is still playing around with techniques. I think he has enjoyed his six months outside the Disney fold. James is still a supervising animator at DWA and I don't think he has been promoted to director on any of the upcoming projects. I'm sure someone told me recently what he was working on now but I've clean forgotten. I also don't think DWA has any hand-drawn movies on the slate - Me and My Shadow is a mix (or what I last saw of it was a mix of 2D and 3D) but I don't know who is doing that. I think DWA have used Ken Duncan's studio in the past for outsourcing 2D (much like they did with James' old studio). I think Glen had previously told someone that he liked Katz and liked DWA's approach which meant that some folks added 2 and 2 together and got to 5.

People can talk about the brain trust all they like but the only true story man in their midst was Joe. He wasn't as strong an animator as the others but his grasp on story made him a legend. He was able to take a concept and expand it into a fully fledged feature with just the right amount of drama, comedy, action, adventure and pathos - his scripts were pitch perfect. Each of the brain trust has their own strengths but I don't think any of them have the story telling capabilities of Joe. I can't believe it has been over 7 years since he was killed.

I believe that "Bolt", "Brave" and "PatF" were micromanaged till they lost freshness, originality and identity. Lasseter is a very lucky guy, who has been sorrounded by very talented people like Joe Ranft (of course excluding Andrew Stanton, Brad Lewis, Mark Andrews and perhaps Lee Ulrich). I'm waiting for the next movie from the directors of "Tangled".The boys have potential. Thank you Leemac.

Byron Howard and Nathan Greno are working on an original WDAS concept at the moment - I don't think it has been approved for production. Clements and Musker have a hand-drawn feature in development too.

He doesn't make work fun. Andrew is a talented director but his writing isn't as strong as others at either Pixar or WDAS. The problem is that he thinks he is perfect at everything.

I don't know the name of the game that Lasseter is playing, replacing, firing, "letting go" such talented people. For example. Glen Keane "officially" had minimal recognition for his astounding work on "Tangled". Perhaps some suits over Pixar (and now WDAS) are just a bunch of egomaniacs... they are decidedly trying to concentrate power and credit. Happy to know that Mrs. Chapman is joining Dreamworks again.
