Isn't Disney planning new attractions at WDW with Avatarland? What about France and Hong Kong? There are expansions at both resorts happening right now, not to mention the new SDL resort currently under construction in China. Relatively speaking Disney may be slowing down from what they've been doing over the past few years, but they're still expanding their parks and resorts.

There is a very large DHS plan on the way.

Expect it to be done before Avatar.

Anyone know how this will effect the new 'Baxter vanity projects' for DL (particularly TL) that were supposed to get underway next year? Seems like these might have been put on hold, if Rasulo and his flying sharp pencil monkeys want to concentrate spending on Shanghai and DHS.

Princess Fantasy Faire-Fantasyland Theater @ Disneyland
    Fantasyland Expansion @ WDW

    France
    Ratatouille ride @ WDSP

    Tokyo
    I can't think of anything

    Hong Kong
    Mystic Manor ride

    Shanghai
    The whole thing gets underway

    DVC
    New wing at Grand Floridian

    Cruise Line
    Nothing

That's not a whole lot. Especially in the American parks as most of Fantasyland at WDW will be open by Christmas and the bulk of the construction got written off in Fiscal '12. The remaining item at WDW that won't open until '14 is the mine train coaster, but that's not as major as Everest as it's just a D Ticket family coaster. The Fantasyland stuff at Disneyland is really pretty minor.

Even adding in construction of an Iron Man ride in Disneyland's Tomorrowland and you've got a substantial decrease in spending from the past few years around the world.

I have a hunch that Avatarland is struggling to get anywhere and Rasulo knows that, so he's safe in saying not much else is happening in '13 for CapEx stuff. The last few years were pretty unusual for all that Disney was doing around the world, especially when you consider the Billion they dumped into the cruise line's new ships recently and that expensive mistake over in Hawaii.

The real Disney stuff of castles and carousels and singing pirates won't go in until Fiscal '14 and '15, and that's the stuff Disney will pay for.

I sure hope that Shanghai learned from what happened last time, so they don't get Hong Kong'd again.

I hope Disney will find a middle way, because SDL shouldn't turn into another DLP due to too many hotel rooms. But building the resort too small, like HKDL, isn't the right way either.

There have been multiple posts on here stating that a makeover to DHS is the next project. Where are you getting that information from.
In that interview, Rasulo clearly stated that Avatarland was the next big project coming to WDW after Fantasyland was completed. Iger also stated previously that Avatar was indeed coming.
HokieSkipper, i would love to know where you are getting your information and find out why you believe they are lying about this.

You are POSITIVe about DHS being the next project?

There doesn't even seem to be definite plans for Avatar at this time

Most of what Iger and Rasulo say is corporate speak designed to pander to Wall Street. They have a big agreement with Cameron to do Avatar, and they're going to keep saying they're doing it.

But the project has been an extremely bumpy road. Final plans still have not been decided on, and there have been some heated disagreements between both sides.

As for DHS, no, I'm not positive it will be the next project. But they have gotten very aggressive with the project, and WDI is trying to push it through to get it moving soon. Until it's been given the green light, we can't be sure of anything. But it's looking very, very good that it's going to happen as of now.

And if it does, you'll see it open before Avatar.

If the turnstiles are still clicking, why spend? It's certainly not because of a few Disney geeks complaining online.
