Yeah, batty is now rough and well defined as of my Jan.1-8 trip of 2007. It was like that on our earlier trip in the year, too.

    No biggie.

Everytime I go past it, I make sure I rub it a lot so I can get it smoothed out quicker than normal.

    Bwhahahahahaha!

You go to the trouble of building a top-quality popular attraction, you've got it in a park that is has a castle, space port, Thunder Mine railroad, and pirates, and yet you decide because you want to try and cheap out that it's best to let it decay into Six Flags show quality? Stupidity. The attendance at WDW currently appears as if it does not reflect such dramatic quality decline.

It's far from stupid. The answer to your question is found in your last sentence quoted above.

Yea, I saw the peeling wallpaper, and the less-than-perfect condition of the stretching room. The first half of the ride seemed fine, but when it came to the graveyard scene, it was just horrendous. There essentially was no music - all you heard was the other tracks. It totally changed the mood of the ride and made it a lot less entertaining. I find it hard to believe that they'd let it get this bad. I realize that a lot of the little things will take time to fix, but how difficult could it be to get the main tracks of the sound working? It's disgraceful.

Oh well. Nothing any of us can do about it, huh?

That has nothing to do with maintenance. Haunted Mansion is an Omnimover type attraction which means that if somebody is in a wheelchair and they have to transfer the whole ride must stop. The Haunted Mansion in Florida stops more often than the one in California in my opinion, mostly due to more guests not understanding how to load onto an Omnimover vehicle and tripping on the belt, getting lost, etc. etc.

It would be nice to see this happen, but, personally, I would love to see a PERMANANT Nighmare Before Christmas ride added to Disney/MGM Studios as has been rumored off and on for the last few years. Ouch!!!---Now I have that darn pixie dust in my eyes again!!! Thanks vbdad, I think you sneezed it my way!!!

I am sorry, but you are becoming an apologist SuperDry. "Run down" can be very ugly, while make believe "lived in look" can be artful. The mansion is not looking all that artful lately. major distinction.

Funny... that didn't used to happen as often (if at all) in the days when people were healthy and in shape.

Why thank you. I did not tell just how disappointed I was. I was hosting a co-worker who had never been to ANY Disney park before. We went to Epcot for 3 hours until it closed, then went to the MK. The first ride I took him on was HM, and the graveyard scene had a totally different mood because of the sound problems. Of course, he didn't notice the difference, because he didn't know what it was supposed to be like, so he didn't know that anything was missing. Compared to anything at Six Flags, I think he got the idea that Disney attractions are of a different breed, but it was so disappointing to me to see the Mansion in such a bad state of repair. I really do think it changed the entire nature of the ride - it's not just like an effect here or there was missing.

Another thing I noticed was that the candelabra in the infinite hallway was barely visible. I could barely see it, and I knew what to look for. I'm sure that my co-worker had no clue.

It's also interesting that I noticed the things that were different between HM at WDW and TDL the most: I've been on the DL version 100+ times and know it very well. Since WDW and TDL are to me the "other" version, and since this was the first time I've been on WDW's in 5 years despite having been to TDR 7 times during that same period, I guess I have TDR's version burned into my head as the alternate version. In the library scene, I thought "Hey, where's the walking book and book on the table that turns its own pages?" Also, where is the "Dead End" sign just before the unload platform?
