If HKDL offers the halloween event to daytime guests and offers a special eveing hours only passport with reduced prices aimed at locals, why can WDW and DL do the same?<<< that is the key point, not that we are saying people should go to Asia instead, but we wished that the US and Paris parks were run more like their Asian counterparts. I remember our last trip to WDW, we were there for 10 days, but only two of them offered night time hours with fireworks unless you paid for Mickey's Christmas party. Given the jet lag and having little ones, we were not prepared to spend more (and at that time, Paris offered equal levels of entertainment for free, except the fireworks). It made the evening we did go unbearable. These parties really do ruin the place IMHO. Just offer it for free and bump up the hotel rates, or add a buck to all admission throughout the year.

I get the controversy about the topic, because you have to pay for something that Disney should offer for free, like shows, parades and fireworks. It's like when for example at DLRP people have to pay extra during summer to see the nighttime parade and the fireworks. We had fun when we attended the P&P Party in 2008, just because we have never seen something like that in Paris. If they want to charge the extra money, they should offer more like free food and non-alcoholic drinks. Today I really get the arguments from the people who are against these events. Paying for the same parade I have already seen in the afternoon is not okay and the Pirates and Princess Parade was just a slightly altered daytime parade.

I love Wishes and like to see it more than once during a trip, but with all the parties going on it was difficult to schedule for this. Add to this that the AK is no longer having evening EMHs and I feel like if I want to see a park in the evening, I only have the choice of DHS or Epcot. Even though I like both parks (the MK is actually my least favourite), I don't like this - especially since one of the reasons to travel to Florida from Europe for me is the choice of four different park experiences there. And what really shocked me was that when I compared park hours to my previous trips which were in January/February, I felt like I got a worse deal in October - a time of year which at least with regard to Disney hotel prices is more expensive than the winter months.

While I am actually looking forward to the MNSSHP, I would rather have no party at all and longer park opening hours. And I am seriously thinking if I want to visit in autumn again, I would try to pick the one week between the last Halloween and the first Christmas party (nice side effect would be that this would coincide with my birthday ;-) ).

The "show" for the event is pretty lame though, and the fireworks WERE great until the best parts were hacked, slashed, and cut.

It is a lot of fun and I would recommend it at least once. I also recommend MVMCP, it is also a lot of fun and something to do at least once. I guess another factor for me is that I don't have any children so really we are talking about two tickets only. I just can't see doing more than once as a little "splurge" on a week long trip. It understandably starts adding up when you have multiple children. I will say this thought that there are a lot of "extras" that Disney typically doesn't do except during MNSSHP. For example the CMs at the Haunted Mansion are all wearing makeup that takes time to put on. I really enjoy the headless horseman. Typically my favorite spot during the parade is consession building in Sleepy Hollow, so I can see the headless horseman galloping across the bridge.

I wish I would have worked a greeter shift there during a party just so I could get it. Alas, it will never happen. <<I really enjoy the headless horseman. >> Another great little thing. Love it, but wish it wasn't necessary to buy an extra ticket to see it. I know it'll never happen, but making these things included in admission would really give a lot of goodwill.
