Try doing what we do - in the morning, we either decide which park we want to go to, or we decide which restaurant we'd like to eat at. Then we go to the WDW dining reservation website - the ONLY Disney website that really works - and ask to see what is available, typically at noon. The site will give us a listing of reservations available On a typical day, logging in about 9 am., we will get a choice of between 35-40 restaurants. (Even Christmas day this year at 9 am. got us 20 choices.) Maybe not all that we'd like, but generally we can find some that are acceptable. And depending on the time of year, we've also been able to get into Canada that way. In fact, earlier last year, we went three weekends in a row (because it was available), and could have gone more but we got tired of eating there.

The Brown Derby is pretty much off my list now except for a mid-afternoon appetizer and desert like we did during our visit last October. The last time we had a full lunch there the bill including tip was over $100. And that was for a shared appetizer, two mid-range entrees and two deserts. No alcohol - just soft drinks. WAY too much to spend on lunch. It is my favorite theme-park restaurant though. The atmosphere is great, the tables aren't crammed together, they haven't dumbed-down the menu to appeal to the DDP crowd and the service is the best I've ever experienced at WDW.
