I give you now, my simple, CURRENT list of Disneyland rides that I love and are my favorites/must see... 5. Indy Jones 4. Alice in Wonderland 3. Star Tours 2. Monorail 1. MATTERHORN! See, now was that so hard!? (I had to make some tough choices there, but I just went and did it! ;p)

Originally Posted By Mr X And now I will indulge myself and explain exactly WHY I picked that "top 5". I actually did put a fair amount of thought into each one... Indy is a no-brainer. An incredible attraction to say the least, and even though it was semi-cloned in DisneySea it still reminds me of Disneyland (even when I'm riding the DisneySea version!). Back when it first opened and a total "Must-See!" on any Disneyland visit, Indy was just the thing to set Anaheim apart from DisneyWorld, and in a really cool way (like a secret that those Orlando visitors would just never "get"). Alice was an indulgence on my part...I ALWAYS want to enjoy an attraction at Disneyland that I can't experience anyplace else (see Matterhorn later for further explanation), but I also dig the 2 story idea for a dark ride, and seeing folks riding out up on the second floor is cool for this "old amusement park" fanatic...and who doesn't dig the Alice in Wonderland story anyway!? If you don't, you need to examine what life means to you, and then get back on the ride! Star Tours, blew me away on my very FIRST visit to Disneyland way back in 1989 (I first visited WDW in 1974, but as you can imagine I had a frustratingly long wait before I could finally visit the "REAL" Disneyland...though in the meantime I enjoyed Epcot ), when I was young and optimistic and happy and a huge Disney fan but DAMN did they take it to the next level by drawing in a Star Wars fan such that I was...and then launching me into hyperspace! Talk about bringing out the kid in you...they DID IT! And then the trench run! OMG...it was, just out of this world. AND, yet another case of an East Coast kid who'd been to DisneyWorld a couple of times before saying "GOD, DISNEYLAND IS AMAZING!!!!". (yes, I realize they cloned it at MGM...but it just wasn't the same somehow) The MONORAIL...to me Disney and Monorails go hand in hand. I love the WDW Monorail the most, because it actually GOES somewhere (an aborted effort to be sure, but at one point monorails in WDW connected the WHOLE WORLD!). The Disneyland Monorail for me represents the hope and promise of Tomorrow more than anything else, and even though I've had the happy chance to ride on a bullet train traveling at around 200mph...to me riding the monorail at Disneyland is just as cool, for all the same hopeful reasons. The Matterhorn Bobsleds win, well, just because. Just because it's a Disneyland Icon that they've never copied (and I hope they never will!). Just because Walt Disney invented it. Just because it's the quintessential "Disney" ride when anyone makes a video of Anaheim. Just because *I've* experienced it while so many WDW visitors just have no clue (again with the "secret" West Coast vibe that I so enjoy). Just because it's the freakin MATTERHORN! Noplace else has one. It's ONLY at Disneyland. (oh, and I almost freaked out way back in 1990 on my SECOND trip to Disneyland, when from outside the park I glanced above the berm I saw the tip-top of the Matterhorn Mountain and I realized "I AM HERE!") That's why.

Matterhorn (it's one of Walt's ideas, and contractors thought it would be impossible to pull off) 4. Casey Jr./Storybookland (LOVE the miniatures, and the music playing in the background) 3. Peter Pan's Flight (cuz it's Peter Pan's Flight! And also, Nana reminds me of my first dog, Buster... RIP boy) 2. Big Thuner Mountain RR (I like the back story of the attraction, and the detail alot) 1. The Jungle Cruise (This was the first attraction that my husband and I went on together, on May 5, 2005. And, I really thought that tiger was real when I was a kid!) That was kinda difficult!

As in, when it gets too crowded at Disneyland, we'll avoid all the tourists and go hang out with the annual passholders at DCA (also implying no one would pay full price to regularly get in there). That's changing some, since they're adding so much, but the name still sticks with me. There's many night when my family and I go down just to hang out at the AP lounge. We might ride a couple kids' things, like Monster's Inc. and grab a tortilla, but that's about it...

I still fondly remember taking naps on the couches and those itty bitty cups of instant cola (hit a button, it filled a little cup - it was a circa 80/90's machine that apparently came from the old corporate lounge itself). This was early 00's, so it was while the debate over DCA was going strong and the DL AP populus was taking obvious flack from the company for daring to reject their product. It's also around when DL and WDW's AP populations really decided they didn't generally like each other (there's still plenty of animosity to this day.)
