Okay, well something new and GOOD. I mean tear the building down and install a completely different attraction.

In Disneyland the Room is completely landlocked. Maybe the MK's Room could be combined with other available real estate. But it makes more sense, given the limitations imposed by the space, and in terms of budget and resources, to come up with the best possible Tiki Room. (And UNM weren't it!)

When it is a hot and humid day and I've just spent an unreasonably long time standing in line for Peter Pan and Pooh, I start to get rather pissy. But then I try to calm down and remind myself I'm at WDW, which is where I would rather be than any other place in the world. Then I head for one of my "happy places"... an attraction that almost never has a line, a place where I can sit for awhile and a place that is air-conditioned. The Tiki's, Country Bears, Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress and the People Mover all serve this role very admirably. The People Mover isn't air conditioned, but zips around fast enough that you always have a nice breeze. After experiencing one of those attractions I come out cool, calm and collected and am ready to face the heat and the crowds once again.

Perhaps, but as we've seen with the New Fantasyland and the redeveloped areas of DCA Disney can and will demolish and rebuild relatively large swaths of a park if it wants to. The Tiki Room is a nice show, but it's at the top of my list of things to put to bed along with Carousel of Progress, The Electrical Parade, and The Country Bears. "I think the MK NEEDS some attractions that aren't all that popular. They serve as a great relief valve for me" I don't disagree at all. What I'm saying is why not create something new that accomplishes the same goal? I look at the lineup of attractions at the MK and it's been basically the same stale lineup for the past 20 years.

No one is forced at gunpoint to see any attraction that I am aware of. Lobby to get new stuff, just keep your mitts off the stuff you don't like...others do like it! Disney does that too often as it is. And what do we get in place of it...nothing, absolutely nothing.

Because Disney gets ripped every time they replace (rather than add) an attraction. Of course the obvious examples of this are at Epcot and include JII with Figment, Test Track and Mission Space. And this criticism has occurred despite the fact that from the time it opened until Soarin' opened, Test Track has consistently been the most popular attraction at Epcot. Disney also was criticized for replacing the Sea Cabs with Nemo. The major complaint seems to be the usual whining about TOONS. In truth, it is a cute and well-done dark ride... probably at least as good as many other Disney dark rides. It is also a 5-minute ride as opposed to the Sea Cabs 90 seconds and off. And of course this doesn't even mention the fact that the Sea Cabs had been boarded up for years, so in effect it replaced NOTHING. Three Caballeros has been criticized for replacing El Rio de Tiempo, even though they are each about equally as worthless. Yea I know... TOONS!! At the MK the replacement of The Toad with Pooh has been universally criticized, even though Pooh has been far more popular than The Toad ever was. Buzz Lightyear is criticized for replacing Delta Dreamflight, even though Buzz is a far more popular attraction (TOONS AGAIN AND IT DOESN'T BELONG IN TOMORROWLAND!!) Alien Encounter/Stitch has been criticized for replacing Mission to Mars. Stitch probably deserves the criticism but Alien Encounter was VERY WELL done (although I personally thought it was too scary for the MK). Mission to Mars was the biggest disappointment I ever had at WDW. It was the first attraction we ever rode at WDW. I loved the idea of Tomorrowland, and Mission to Mars was the first thing we saw after entering Tomorrowland. After the ride was done we shook our heads in disbelief... we had experienced sitting down on seats that vibrated while a movie was shown. BIG WOW. This was tomorrow? So I think it is pretty easy to see why Disney may be reluctant to replace anything... ESPECIALLY attractions that Walt was personally involved with and are considered by many to be "Classics".

Like maybe he's the victim of physical abuse at the hands of the other older bears. That's dark Marc Davis for ya.
Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "Why not? Because Disney gets ripped every time they replace (rather than add) an attraction." Every time? Not always. I'd say out here in California their success has been hit and miss, however they recently seem to be on a roll with a string of successful upgrades along with new shows, shops, restaurants and attractions in both DL and DCA. The folks managing WDW aren't doing themselves any favors by maintaining basically the same tired repertoire at the MK that they've had for the past two decades. All I'm saying is change it up a little (OK, a lot) and make the place interesting again. With the Tiki Room fire they had the perfect opportunity to go in and rethink the show and the surrounding area.
