That's only because of the natural rejuvenation of popularity that happens after a major star completely loses his mind, his nose falls off and he dies. It sucked originally, and it still does, but blind worship is propelling it on.

Even though HISTA was pure corn, it was well done and made use of the theater completely. But then the tough generations that we have raised started to get the "vapors" because make believe lab rats were brushing against their legs.

(Or watch the VHS copy I recorded off MTV about 20 years ago.)

It's MUCH better in person. Effects, 3D, sound. Don't go off a video, that's just foolish.

I don't know that these are necessarily mutually exclusive.

(And I don't agree that the Tiki Room is "old hat."))

I saw it in 3D at DL fifteen years ago. I don't really need to see it in 3D again.

Once was enough. Or more than enough.

OK... I'll bite. Please tell me why Carousel of Progress and the Tiki Room should not be considered Classics?

The Tiki Room was Disney's first extensive use of animatronics. It opened a year before Carousel of Progress and 3 years before Pirates of the Caribbean.

Carousel of Progress was an attraction Walt was very involved with and was a HUGE hit at the 64-65 NY World's Fair. It was Disney's first use of animatronics in a realistic setting.

Both were groundbreaking attractions in an area that even today differentiates Disney from its competition... use of animatronics.

I am totally mystified why significant attractions like the Tiki's and Carousel of Progress can be considered stale, while The Toad, a bunch of plywood flats painted with day-glo paint is considered a Disney Classic. Something here is VERY WRONG.

And what may be old to frequent visitors is something totally new and fresh to new or infrequent guests. I would imagine that a small child, whether its 1961 or 2011, will still be enthralled by singing birds, bears, dolls, etc. These attractions are timeless. If you don't like it, then move on. And yes, these attractions are CLASSIC!

One of the things I adore at DLP is having an apperetif, then a bottle or 2 of wine with my lunch, then going for a chilled out cruise on the Mark Twain/Molly Brown or a trip through Phantom Manor...heaven. I think I could enjoy the MK more with alcohol too. Though not required at Disneyland.

RT, you and Ann come to DLP and I will totally change your mind. A run based cocktail in the Blue Lagoon, fine wines at the Silver Spur, Walt's or Auberge De Cindirillon, it is fantastic!

see, this is one way the MK has DL beat. The DL of my youth had those and they are the attractions I specifically seek out in the MK. To me, it would not be worth going to the MK without HoP, CoP, People Mover and now the Tiki Room. All the other signature attractions (except maybe Haunted Mansion) are better in California or Paris. so I really enjoy the AA attractions and People Mover (PM has so many wonderful memories with my family as a kid, and my kids love it too). we all love the Tiki Room. I hated the Under New Management show. This is good.

The other cool alternative could have been a Haunted Swing/Mad House attraction themed to the Tiki Gods getting angred, but they have very low capacity.

I totally agree. AA's to me = Disney parks. And I am really saddened by their demise. I particularly love them when they are not toons. I can ride roller coasters anywhere, I do think in the main the mountains are very much overrated (except maybe Space Mountain in Paris or Splash Mountain - which I know, has toons, but it is very well done).

But I cannot do anything like the Tiki Room, CBJ, Hop, CoP anywehere else, and although others have copied HM and PotC, no where has bettered them (ok, maybe Geisterrikshaw in Phantasialand, but that may just be the uniqutity of the chinese demons).

I think the Tiki Room is fab, and it is a place kids love that adults can and do enjoy too.
