God, please help LP to get an edit feature soon, so people like me, who don't read their posts before they submit them, will be able to correct mistakes before other people see that they say things like, " I just read the past 30 posts..." Amen.

cmpaley, you are always very quick to criticize, and dare I say, judge others Catholic or not, but when someone criticizes you you act the wounded martyr, throw a hissy-fit and demand apologies.

Remember this quote: "Judge not, lest ye be judged". And live with the consequences of your actions.

Maybe in your next confession, you should confess the sin of hubris (as defined in my well-loved copy of the Webster's New World Dictionary as: arrogance caused by too great pride).

Could you expand on that because I don't see a difference between the two.

No, I mean trying to make excuses for crimes being "somewhat less bad" because the victim is post-pubescent" rather than 8 years old is ridiculous.

The purpose of a penance is to direct one's sense toward God, not punishment. That's why people are generally prescribed prayers for penance. Sometimes, though, penitential prayers can feel like discipline because they force one to be humble and do what they would otherwise choose to do. That's a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

True...and with that zealousness and some maturity (which I admittedly lack), great strides can be made for advancing the Kingdom of God.

    >>Being a Catholic lapsed nearly 32 years, I too find him insulting to non-Catholics and to Catholics who have had a completely different experience in the church than he did.<<

By lapsed Catholic, I assume you mean that you rejected the faith by your choice to no longer practice or believe the teachings? If that's the case, then how can you be insulted? If you don't believe it's true, then what do you care that I do and dare to speak it?

    >>cmpaley, remember your Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
By your overly sanctimonious posts pretty much condemning non-Catholics and Catholics who were raised in the religion does give those people the prerogative to respond in kind. If you can't take criticism, do not criticize.<<

First, by saying my posts are sanctimonious, you are impugning my motives in making them. That's not something that is open to being discussed as only I know my intention. What is that? To communicate what I have learned about the faith with the hope that someone will learn about the faith and become a better Christian/Catholic. You are implying that is not my intention.

Now, to you current attack on my character:

    >>I'll accept Fa's as well.<<

Funny, I never offered an apology because I feel I spoke the truth.<<

Your feeling does not a fact make.

    >>cmpaley, you are always very quick to criticize, and dare I say, judge others Catholic or not, but when someone criticizes you you act the wounded martyr, throw a hissy-fit and demand apologies.<<

Let's see...someone says that they are Catholic and that they are doing things that are directly contrary to Church teaching. By telling them that what they are doing is contrary to Church teaching and that their soul may be in danger, you say I am "judging?"

Wow. I was taught that doing something like that is a Spiritual Work of Mercy. Two of them, in fact: "instruct the ignorant" and "admonish the sinner." The words are rather direct, but they are not meant to be insulting. "Ignorant" means someone doesn't know something, nothing more, nothing less.

    >>Remember this quote: "Judge not, lest ye be judged". And live with the consequences of your actions.<<

First, to only quote that part of the passage is a commonly used, but intellectually dishonest trick. Everyone knows it but they ignore the rest of, not only the passage, but the very book in which it is printed! The passage is Matthew 7:1-5, "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgement you pronouce you will be judged, and the measure you give it will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Now, admittely, I have a lot of work to do on my personal road to sanctification. I freely admit that without reservation. Here's the situation, however...this whole discussion started out when I expressed the VERY Christian sentiment that May God have mercy on the soul of Saddam Hussein. This brought up a discussion of how could I think that would be possible and I expressed what I believe, as a Catholic, on the subject.

Then someone comes in and says that they are Catholic but they don't go to Mass every Sunday and that they don't agree with the Church on some things. So, I respond by saying exactly what the CHurch says on those things and explaining them to the best of my ability.

Because of that, I'M THE JERK.

    Okay. Gotcha.

    >>Maybe in your next confession, you should confess the sin of hubris (as defined in my well-loved copy of the Webster's New World Dictionary as: arrogance caused by too great pride).<<

Well, that would be fine...if it were truly pride involved. Since you don't know my soul or what sins I struggle with are, you are hardly in a position to tell me what sins I have to confess.
