It was yet another dumb political calculation from McCain - they happen almost daily lately. He lied to Dave personally - got on the phone and said he had to race back to washington, then immediately goes to another CBS studio for a different interview. Did they think that Dave wouldn't notice or say anything?

And yet, what do we see right here on these boards? GOPers waving the whole thing away as 'media bias'. It's incredible - you just can't make a dent with these folks. They have no expectations of accountability with their candidate - he or she can say or do anything at all and they'll find a way to excuse it.

True, but McCain had to hot foot it over there to distract from the Palin interview.

Hoisted on his own petard, as it were.

I wonder what might be different if McCain had chosen Pawlenty?

LIke I said in my previous post, IF McCain just been HONEST and told him sooner, we probably wouldnt be here. People cancel on these shows all the time, what bothered Dave is that he just took him and his show for granted to just dismiss it the way he did.

It was more of an insult to just diss his show for another like that although I understand McCain going on CBS to cover up the hatchet job Palin did the night before, but there are better ways to do it.

She brushed off the CBS interview by saying it was a more serious venue, but AGAIN, she didn't deny the fact that Mccain lied. I think she is surprised the wrath Letterman gave, but just shows how out of touch these people are....like a comedy show isnt going to take advantage of his stupidity lol. I remember when Lindsay Lohan couldnt appear on Leno because she was too coked up and drunk and rammed her SUV into the city of L.A. and had to cancel and Leno did a job on her using Rob Schneider as Lohan in drag to conduct the interview lol.

And they honestly thought LYING to Letterman would just slip through the cracks? On Letterman???

Lord, have mercy on us. I've been living in constant dread of the day I hear Sarah Palin sing.

My favorite Clinton jab was on Leno. This was way back when Hillary seemed to have a new hair do every week.

The joke was that Bill didn't recognize Hillary from behind and pinched her butt. After he realized it was her he apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again.

Another bizarre misstep by McCain, that's for sure.

TWO missteps actually. One isn't so important, but it's still rather odd. WHY did McCain personally call Dave anyway? That seems rather un-Presidential frankly. He should've just had one of his people call, AND they shouldn't have offered up anything concrete as he did. Just "urgent matters of campaign and country" or some such vague thing. Would work fine for a presidential candidate, and Dave would've been left with no material whatsoever. So, why exactly would the President-to-be bother himself with calling up a TV star to cancel? Weird.

The SECOND, and far more important gaffe was the outright lie.

If he lies about THAT (didn't he learn from the Brady Bunch that "something suddenly came up" is always the best excuse?), like a nervous child, what ELSE does the guy lie about?

Is he just a pathological liar?
