It's incredible - you just can't make a dent with these folks. They have no expectations of accountability with their candidate - he or she can say or do anything at all and they'll find a way to excuse it.

One isn't so important, but it's still rather odd. WHY did McCain personally call Dave anyway? That seems rather un-Presidential frankly. He should've just had one of his people call, AND they shouldn't have offered up anything concrete as he did. Just "urgent matters of campaign and country" or some such vague thing. Would work fine for a presidential candidate, and Dave would've been left with no material whatsoever. So, why exactly would the President-to-be bother himself with calling up a TV star to cancel? Weird. The SECOND, and far more important gaffe was the outright lie. If he lies about THAT (didn't he learn from the Brady Bunch that "something suddenly came up" is always the best excuse?), like a nervous child, what ELSE does the guy lie about? Is he just a pathological liar?
