The power was turned off when the fire was reported and the guests kicked out the windows and climbed out of the monorail and climbed on top of the car and then walked down towards the front on top of the train.

When the fire was finally put out the entire car had completely burnt to the frame. Disney held the car for several years in a warehouse because of 3 lawsuits filed. All were settled out of court.

I have the unique priviledge of being the person in charge of the monorail system the night of the fire. My wife called me as the fire was going on and I said...CANT TALK NOW. At 11 she turned on the news and saw the footage on the news.

After awhile the head from the metal made the plastic shell melt and then the air bag system (which is the suspension system) exploded and flamed the melting with a rush of air (think of a fireplace bellow). That caused the train to catch fire.

We tried to look around and find a cast member to report this to but, by the time we found one, the monorail was out of sight and everyone must have thought we were merely 3 old ladies experiencing some sort of dimentia, due to the heat.

ORWEN: Well, I remember seeing that fire and smoke very well--as though it was just yesterday. But we never did hear the outcome of it all.

Hahaha ... thanks, Mele! This thread is kind of weird for me to read. Seriously though, I hope nothing happens to the LB and that this is just a rumour.
