My interpretation of her review: The good: -Several of the animatronics were amazing The bad: -Way too short -She never felt immersed in the experience. I asked her why and the biggest reasons were the vehicles felt too crowded together and "set" pieces were way to obvious (lighting fixtures, rods holding figures, etc) -Some of the rooms were way too small -The whole story seemed rushed and jumbled. When it ended (very abruptly according to her) her mom and her looked at each other and said "That's it?" I'm hoping to go on it this weekend and judge for myself. *holds up flame shield*

If haunted mansion lost the streching rooms and hallway i think with the doombuggies themselves it would be the same length.

Pirates story is really about pirates gone wild and Mansion has the same idea, only with spirits gone wild. So for me, I was focusing more on the plot elements of Lil Mermaid than I was the theme details. The next time I ride it, I will have gotten past trying to gleen the story, as I now got it, and enjoy the overall show more.

I think this is the problem with modern WDI, there is too much interactivity, or linear narration without the sense of place being the most important part?

In my case, I feel that it is a waste of my energy to focus on the plot in Finding Nemo because I end up asking too many, WHY, questions. So I just sit back and enjoy the Subs as the Subs.

The best attractions just create a wonderful environment and let the rider fill in many of the blanks. Even among FaL dark rides (which allows for a more apple-to-apple comparison), I think the most successful are Peter Pan and MTWR, which basically plop you in an environment without a lot of plot, and are more successful than the more linear SW and PDJ. Alice is somewhere in the middle stylistically, and somewhere in the middle of success, IMO. And compare the lines PPF and MTWR routinely generate compared to SW and PDJ. Yes, the latter vehicles hold more people (if sent out full, which they often aren't), but that doesn't explain why PPF and MTWR routinely have 30-45 minute lines and the other two are usually much less than half that. People just respond to and enjoy those environments more than the other two, even if they can't put their finger on why.
