And by the way, not all bottled waters are just r.o. water from municipal sources. Some spring waters actually have natural minerals in them that benefit your body rather than flush your system, like the chlorinated tap water that comes out of the typical home faucet, sometimes contaminated with floride too. Check out mgwater.com, you might learn something. Wait, I'm sorry, you already have it all figured out.

As far as I can tell, nobody associated with this event is soliciting money. Instead, they're asking that people make pledges to reduce their energy consumption.

I love the Pumpkins but techinically the only people that returned were Billy Corrigan and Jimmy Chamberlain the drummer. But given that Corrigan is probably responsible for 95% of the material, he's the most important part.

    Well, yeah!

But what about Rudy Vallee and Al Jolson?

BTW, we haven't made any new pledges, but DW and I have been doing many of these things for a long time.

Did any of the celebs happen to mention it is better to ride a motor scooter than drive a suv?

    Well, that's it, isn't it?

Nobody is saying that we should stop driving all together. Or that it's a sin to turn on our computers. Or to microwave some "ACT II" popcorn.

But if we can take a scooter or a 'cycle or a Honda instead of a Hummer... If we can line-dry a load of clothes instead of putting them in the dryer... If we can cut our showers short 4 minutes... If we can get over our embarassment at the "un-cool-ness" of taking a fabric bag to the store... Etc., etc....

HOW many of us are there in developed nations? Answer: enough that if each of us did something LITTLE it would add up to be a LOT.

I'm not sure I even believe in global warming. But I know that it couldn't hurt to reduce emissions, to reduce our dependency on ALL types of power, and to do what we can to protect our natural environment.

That's all the Live Earth people were asking. Look at your habits. Consider changing them. Even if it seems like a little bit of a deal until you get used to it.

The idea that these people are going to tell us how to live our lives when they don't even come CLOSE to practicing the things they preach makes me want to laugh.

Let me get this straight: I have to make sacrifices, but meanwhile any of the Hollywood elite feel that so long as they write a check to plant a tree, they should be able to just go on having private limos and gulf stream jets and whatnot, the amount of pollution they create be damned simply because...oh, that's right...they wrote a check to cover the damage they created. Right. Because THAT really shows you care.

While I might have concerns about Global Warming(in fact I'm leaning towards it exisisting) -- though let's be honest here, alot of the science still needs a work and examination -- the idea that the rich and famous of Rock N Roll or Hollywood should be lecturing the average person on how to live to be "good citizens" of the world is all but vomit inducing. And I'm sure the average person knows it and resents it, too -- which is why the ratings for this concert were so low since no one likes to be lectured to by hypocrites.

Ummmm... except that the whole show had an anti-lecture vibe.

    DAR, you're being a bit overly-defensive.

But -- for argument's sake -- let's assume the very worst. Let's say that a bunch of hypocritical ego-centric stars flew to arenas in fuel-guzzling jets. Let's say that Matt Damon filmed a "save our earth" promo to be broadcast during the show... and HE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO EAT CHINESE FOOD OUT OF A STYROFOAM CLAMSHELL! Let's say that if everyone who watched the shows on their video monitors had turned them off instead, we would have saved 320.4 acres of rainforest.

It still got across a message of saving the planet.

I don't care if Madonna is preachy or if Smashing Pumpkins did this to sell CD's or if Bon Jovi took five separate Lear Jets to get to New Jersey. Overall, the message they delivered is going to save more energy than the energy it took to deliver the message.

I really enjoyed Metallica, but they were much better when we saw them on Sunday (see 16 YO Rock London thread in community).

Madonna was ace as always, and the sketches were fun too. Overall very entertaining. The timing was poor in London though as it competed (television wise) with the Wimbeldon final, Formula 1 at Silverstone, and the Tour de France starting in London. But we enjoyed it (still haven't seen it all, but I have recorded it).

If just 1 in 100 viewers changes their lifestyle because the concert made them think, and they continue to be more responsible as a result, then Live Earth was a success in my book.
