On Stranger Tides had such a weird gross - over 75% international. There was definitely franchise fatigue with Shrek. Marc Webb's Spidey also had good international legs.

One last thought before I go it seems the one Pixar sequel that many people want but may never happen is an Incredibles sequel

It could either be a cluster or knock it out of the ballpark..... Based on what I have seen thus far, it's going to be incredible..

It's a Disney movie, but it's rated PG-13, so probably not a good idea to bring little kids, but is it good enough to leave kids at home and go see? Probably not. So no one ends up going.

I'm genuinely excited by it too - I don't know the comic book at all but the concept sounds fascinating.

I still think that Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn wrote the best comic book screenplay I've ever seen - it was an absolutely brilliant story.

It almost made me forget about Vinnie Jones and the excrement that was X-Men: The Last Stand - or the Origins: Wolverine movie come to think of it!

A couple of my colleagues have said that it shouldn't have had the castle at the front as it wasn't kiddie friendly. It is definitely a very different "Disney" branded movie.

PG-13 isn't want disqualifies it in my mind. I take my kids to PG 13 movies sometimes. Usually superhero movies. That type of violence is usually very different from the violence we are likely to see at LR, and I'm not willing to sit through that with my kids.

At the top of the thread I'm linking to RTH gives us the most accurate numbers. LR could be under 10 million. That is not good

As for DM2, I didn't know that it was produced in France. I still don't get why so many bad movies are so popular. I have never liked the slap stick humor that much and although some Disney and Pixar movies have thar as well, I still prefer Pixar over any other animated movies.

Looks like a 5 day gross in the $55m range at best at the moment. Looks like it might top out in the $100-150m range. Factor in weak tracking abroad and this one is going to lose Disney a fortune. If it tops out in the $300m range in total that will be $250-300m write-off for Disney - pretty much wipe out the profitability of Iron Man 3.

He is happily spending the studios' money so if the industry is to go the way of the record industry and is on a road to extinction then he is certainly helping it along its way.

That doesn't sound good at all. So I would guess fiscal year 2013 will not be that great for the studios. Only MU will be successful. Thor 2 starts in October, that's fiscal year 2014.

I haven't seen Rango yet, but Verbinski isn't a great director. He was lucky with POTC I and although I enjoyed watching POTC II & III, they weren't very good.

It will be an odd fiscal year for Studio Entertainment - Wreck-it Ralph only broke even, Oz has lost over $100m, Iron Man 3 has made $100m for Disney (if it is 50:50 with DMG), MU will make money and then Ranger will write-off every cent of profit this year.

It is amazing how little the Studio has made under Iger's watch. Sadly for every The Avengers there seems to be a John Carter. Lack of consistency in their tentpoles is killing profitability.

Rango is.....quirky. Very quirky. John Logan is an absolute genius - best writer in the world right now (he did Skyfall recently and also two exceptional plays in Peter & Alice and I'll East You Last) and it works a treat. The animation style is unique enough that it keeps you engaged. It is overlong and patchy in places though.

I don't think he is great but he certainly seems adept at handling big setpieces. I really didn't like either The Weather Man or The Mexican though - both were very messy IMHO.
