MM - For some reason I feel like singing to you...."Did you ever know that you're my hero?..." Be glad you can't actually hear me as I can't carry a tune unlike the rest of my family. That is so cool to be so close to your DD. My DD goes in spurts. Right now she is telling me about all the drama in her life.

Villians - Your DS sounds like quite the heartbreaker. I am a little biased myself as I think my kids are all good looking. I do actually have proof that my DD1 is adorable. I entered her in an adorable baby contest and she came in second and has a big trophy.

I don't know how the bash works. Will you know if they are young or old? I too do not know what is "cool",but I could always ask my kids. I figure you generally can't go wrong with chocolate and everyone is a Disney fan or they wouldn't be on here so that is always an option. I needed an excuse to go visit the Disney store this coming weekend. <g>

MM I too tell my boys anything they want to know - I have been asked everything from when I had my first kiss, drink to how old I was my first time and if I regreted it. How many men (they did ask if there were any women - to their relief no). I have never done anything I was ashamed to tell them - I have made mistakes (drinking for the first time while a camp counselor in high school - but not while with the kids)but those were all learning experiences. I tell them I wouldn't change one thing I have ever done - because if I did it would change my whole life and I might not have ended up where I am now. I encourage them to think carefully before they make a desision - because that desision will shape their whole life...I am sure I will have the same conversations with my younger children as they get older.

Okay now the J*b front and my DS18 - he has been offered the j*b with walmart in the automotive dept - he would ring up all the work done by the mech's plus regular cust stuff - this j*b would be 40 hrs a week and he would not have any time off before the end of the year. Next he has been offered the j*b with Kohl's in the mens and misses depts - I explained to him this would mean folding and hanging lots of clothes (something I can't get him to do for himself here). Starbucks in town (we have 11 in our little town) is hiring and the pay starts the same as Kohls/walmart and if you work more than 20 hrs you get benifits (which he doesn't really need as long as he's in school)if it's more than 25 hrs then they give him a $3000 dollar school allowance!! So now he has to decide what to do - His goal is to play for the NFL (pipe dream since he isn't even working out and won't play ball if he can even make the team until next fall) but I would never rain on his parade...Hopefully by next week I will have one son working!!
DS16 is taking all AP classes and really doesn't have time to work and that is fine as his job for now is school...

Uggg - Mickey you are lucky your DD found her passion early and is already making that dream begin!! How did the reviews come in from last weeks show???

When DS18 got off the phone after talking to some girl of the moment about it I just kind of off the cuff asked him if he mentioned that he won as a girl(yes I am a BAAAAADDDD mommy) I went on to tell him that the boys group was full so we put him in a blue dress and put a bow in his hair and entered him as a girl and he won....the story went on from there and a couple months later I heard him talking to one of his guy friends about how twisted my DH and I were that we even entered him in a babycontest as a girl and he won...Well DH and I were practicly rolling on the floor laughing and finally told him the truth - he was so mad....but admitted it was one of the best pranks we played on him.....

My daughter loves magic, but it is not her passion. Her passion is writing. She seriously wants to be a writer when she grows up, specifically a novelist. And although I'm biased, she is a fantastic writer. She has won many awards. She is also going to participate in Nanowrimo for November. She plans on doing magic to support herself through college. Like your own DS16, AP classes really take a bite into her time, but I love the fact she is so focused on what she wants. It will really serve her well in the future. She wants to use magic to get herself through college, earn herself a degree in Literature and graphic arts. She wants her job to be in graphic arts, because she'll need something to pay the bills as she struggles to become a writer. As far as dating, she says there is no point until Junior year. She wants to stay "focused" on her first couple years of high school-- and what's the point when "mom and dad have to chauffer you around?" LOL, we'll see how long that idea lasts! She's a funny kid, but an absolute great one that I couldn't be prouder of! She's the light of our lives. I'm going to get sentimental now-- but she really has a heart of gold and is special. She cares about others, tries to make a difference, and just always seems so grounded. Geez, I wasn't that grounded until I was an adult, trust me! Okay, better start another topic before I get teary eyed and make you all want to puke. hehehe

So, how's the shopping coming everyone? I bought and wrapped ANOTHER present last night! Almost 100% complete. I'm like at 96.5%. neener, neener, neener.

He has been watching alot of those Inside the Actors Studio shows and is very fasentated by all comics - I would be very suprised if he didn't become a comic first and then a film maker later in life...He has alot of drive in him!!

I had no idea Starbucks would give you $3000 for school. That is cool. I wish we had one around here for my DD. My DD17 got her first job this past summer at Sonic. She only works 1-3 nights a week, but in addition to minimum wage, she gets around $30-$40 tips a night. Not too bad for 5 hours. She is trying to get on as a waitress now at a chicken place. It is really busy all the time and they make really good tips. She is also taking all AP classes so she has been busy. She just got her transcript and out of a class of over 550, she is 34. She thinks she wants to be a teacher or a counselor, but her dream would be to be a singer. She sings at Opry's all over Texas on the weekends, mainly during the summer. The biggest thing she has done is sing with Ed Burleson who is pretty big on the Texas country scene and he told her anywhere he is ever singing, she is welcome to come and sing with him. She thought about trying out for American Idol this year, but didn't want to miss out on her Senior year. She is the Senior class president and was just in the homecoming court so I think it was a good decision. You will have to let us know what your DS decides about w**k. If he works at Starbucks or Kohl's, would he be able to go to DL with you then? If so, I vote he takes one of those.

Mickey, boy your daughter really has it figured out. That is cool. Although, I don't think I am speaking to you with all that rubbing in about being 96.5% done with your Christmas shopping. <g>

I also love to write, but with everything going on I have neglected it badly. My daughter convinced me to sign up with her this year. I already have a novel in mind. The goal is to write the whole month of November, and by the end, you should have a completed novel. You don't worry about grammar, etc.-- there is time enough for that later. You are only supposed to get the words down on paper. Time enough for "cleanup" later.

When my daughter was in 7th grade she took a college writing course at one of the State colleges. She LOVED it. She also earned high school credit and received an A in the class. She didn't want to go back to "normal" school after that. She said she loved the college atmosphere and how you just bandy about ideas-- LOL, no raising your hand, just a room full of students debating ideas back and forth.

It was a great experience for her.

Being from Washington State, I'm a Starbuck's gal all the way. The educational allowance is a huge added bonus. However, the bottom line is doing what makes him the most happy. If you don't love what you do, and if you don't look foreward to hauling your rear out of bed in the morning, then you're in the wrong career...it doesn't matter how much you get paid if you're not having fun.

Applause, applause for all your amazing and talented kids. Molly has yet to have a clue on what she wants to do. She has wanted to be a paramedic since she was six. Once we were in San Diego, though, she said she wanted to be a zoo keeper. Then there are times that she wants to be a vet. I told her that she doesn't need to decide today, but to do something based on her love of it. It's funny, but I went to vet school, wanting to be a zoo keeper...I never told her that until she mentioned that she wanted to do it herself.

I didn't tell her that I also went to Italy in the summer and studied art because my dad said I should be an artist, or that I studied journalism because my mom said I should be a writer, ot that I took archaeology classes because I also had an obsession with old stuff. Ahhh, the desires of youth.

The bottom line for her is that she says she MUST MUST MUST attend Gonzaga University here in town. When you ask her why, she says it is because they have an awesome basketball team. Thank goodness her grandfather left her a trust fund that pays for her college. GU is a very expensive place to hang out, drink beer and watch basketball games.

villains...I hear ya. We make the promise to be honest with our kids, and then we realize what that really means. I grew up in the 70's...imagine the stuff I have to come clean about when Molly has a question.

Where's the brownies??????????? I got my cold glass of milk right here waiting.

Feeling guilty about the lack of christmas shopping (like 95% not done) so am going to make a start tomorrow by driving to my nearest large mall with my list. It is 31 Oct today so that would make tomorrow 1 Nov so I will be shopping on your bargain day-nothing like that in Aust.
    No news on HER yet?
