Either that or "Deep Economy"; I'd never heard of it, but I just looked it up and it sounds interesting. "The Stand" is 1,138 pages long in paperback, so that might be a bit much for the group.

I suggested Mouse Trap. I would like to read Wicked, FORBID TO READ 451!! Let me throw out some more ideas.

    Alice's Adventures In Wonderland~~~Lewis Carroll

The Hunchback of Notre Dame~~~Victor Hugo

    Les Miserables~~~Victor Hugo

    Ragtime~~~E. L. Doctorow

    The 39 Steps~~~Alfred Hitchcock

    2001, A Space Odyessey~~~Arthur C. Clarke

Those are just the non-disney ones.

So I belive I am the head of next month... so do we want a disney, or non-disney book??

The Victor Hugo books are also long (I love them. I even majored in them. Still too long for this kind of book club I think).

Oh, and I am blown away by human nature --- the horrible way people can treat others and think it's okay, just because they are paying for something.

For the past 6 months, I have been keeping my own children and in addition, my 3 year old nephew. (recently diagnosed as being developmentally delayed, and is undergoing further evaluation, speech therapy, occupational therapy...etc...) <--just throwing that in for further clarity. Oh and of course most of you know I have seven kids of my own, two in diapers, blah blah blah. Anyway, I have been keeping my kids and my nephew. Now his parents have come to me and have asked me to continue keeping my nephew, AND my other nephew who is 7 years old, for the summer.

They offered to pay me an "amount to be determined" "for my troubles."

I flatly refused to accept ANY payment and acted insulted at the very idea. Why? Well not because I don't need the money, but for the exact reason listed here at the beginning of this post.

Once you go from doing something for someone as a favor or as helping them out, and cross over into accepting money for the same, the ENTIRE nature of the relationship changes.

If I take money, now all is "ok" afterall I would be getting PAID. Therefore it is no longer "help" or a "favor" and it becomes a service that is OWED to the parentsm after all they are PAYING for it.

No thanks! Been there, done that, fa'git'a'bout'it.

Sorry to vent here, just needed to let that out somewhere. Thanks.
