Brief thoughts * would rather have had the author not concentrate as much on the Galinda character development and more on Elphaba. I know it was sort of written that way. . snippets of life etc, but I had a hard time empathizing with the main character. * it was a definite twist. Noticed many literary/social type themes intermixed. Will get into that more later (at work. . hiding the screen LOL) Anyway. . thoughts?

I haven't, and I'm really curious how much there is in common between the book and the play. Just from reading the book, I have a hard time imagining it as a musical. I read it a few years ago, and liked it, but I'd forgotten just how much I'd liked it. Maguire's got a real gift for odd, traditional-sounding language. And I love the amount of detail he crams in.

It's not exactly a kiddie book, is it? I used to tell customers that if it were a movie it'd be rated R, and they'd say, "Oh, we saw the play, and we're fine with it." I always suspected the parents were in for some nasty shocks later. "Mommy, what's a hermaphrodite?"
