Originally Posted By Lisann22 I confess a Big Time is where CA Indians come together from all over to celebrate and share our songs and dance. Since it's hard to find places to do this. Now most of them happen in state, county or city parks, so the general public is invtied to participate. We will have demonstrations during the day, along with dancing. We are building a traditional dance corral, most CA Indians danced in a roundhouse but being we are on the coast, we didn't need that kind of structure all year long, we would dance outside under the stars in a circular structure that had a brush fence all around with a small opening for people to come inside. Everyone sits around the dance floor and fire on tule. We will be doing this again. There will be 7 dance groups there representing Pomo, Miwok, Maidu, Yokuts and Mutsun and some other CA Indians. Our tribe (Mutsun) over 100 years ago hosted one of the largest Big Times in Nor Cal. Indians travels from all over to attend, it last for 2 weeks. You'd trade goods, meet mates, share song, dance and other traditionals. Well, we are finally able to bring this back. Our first Big Time in all those years will happen this Labor Day weekend. Our flyer doesn't look to hot on our website but here it is anyways... www.mutsunlanguage.com Here is also some good pictures of Big Times all over NorCal. http://www.calacademy.org/rese arch/anthropology/tap/respix-calind.html
