I agree. The lantern parade would have been spectacular. Maybe not actrobats, but certainly Disney has enough creative people to come up with an alternative.

a brother who fell down and we thought he died (he has been under some observation), coupled with some major work challenges means the IT took a backseat.

Exactly. It doesn't need to be over done, but it just needs SOMETHING.

Nope, Lee, you misunderstood me. Or part of me!

What I meant was you don't need to have pyro to have a nighttime show/spectacular.

Things like the Mulan parade at DL would be a great example of doing things at night that don't end with a bang.

    That was my point there.

But I also believe that logistically things could have been done to make RoL viable.

<<So you would have been stuck with the lantern parade - pretty but unspectacular.>>

I don't buy that. Mulan's parade at DL was very much like that and was very popular. ... But I also believe that something else could have been weaved into the performance. There are a few elements I can think of (but would rather not suggest them here).

Perhaps, ditched isn't the right term.

But there is no way they were going to give folks a reason to stay at DAK at night, and pay to staff/run the place, at the same time they opened a boutique animal experience.

That's just not the Disney way.

That would be like keeping EPCOT open until 11 nightly in summer and THEN adding EMH two nights a week for resort guests.

<<I vehemently disagree with you there Spirit.>>

Good. More like old times. Feel like it's been ages since we vehemently disagreed on anything! :)

<<Steven is totally aware of logistical issues when developing his parades and spectacles.>>

That may be true, but to see the ops nightmares many of his great additions bring give me pause to that notion.
Or perhaps I should rephrase. Maybe he is quite aware of the issues, but thinks his shows are worth the hassles they often bring.

<<The operator is brought in early to the process and asked for advice. Both DLR and DCA Ops agreed that they could handle Remember.... and WoC - what else can he do? Steven is a creative director - he needs to stick to what he does best and consult for outside advice.>>

No disagreement there. But common sense would dictate that many of his shows create hellish conditions for those trying to experience them. I often fear for stampedes when crowds get bad and I always make sure I have an 'escape route'.

And I also hate what Wishes did to the MK by making Main Street and the Hub a giant, hot, sea of concrete to make sure folks could see the show from upfront ... and sadly, all those trees were removed for one of his weakest shows and one in which you really don't miss much if you can't see the very few projections on the castle.

No problem. Just paranoid because they ARE out to get me!

I don't know what to say other than I am sorry to hear about your brother. We definitely need to talk again soon.

Well Tivoli Gardens do one set to the stories of Hans Christian Anderson. It is fantastic.

If there were lanterns shaped like animals in asian, african, native american etc. styles paying tribute to aboriginal art, with a stimulating score, I am sure it would have been hugely popular. Add in some unique lighting effects to the Tree of Life as a centre piece, it could have been excellent.
