Hell, its more than the ENTIRE expansion of DCA, GCH and DTD combined!! <<Spend for Phase II needs to come from the increased revenue generated by the park itself - it needs to be self-sufficient after CarsLand otherwise it won't get another phase of development. It would probably be "Game Over" for DLR too as I doubt that the company will ever drop this type of coin again on the west coast.>> Wow, to be honest thats a little scary to me . I wonder how long after the expansion is complete and they start analyzing attendance patterns and spending before they deem all of this a sucess or failure? I truly hope the park really suceeds this time because it sounds like you are saying not only future extensions of DCA may not happen, but future big projects for DL as well? I dont know, I know its only been about a week, but it looks like WOC is brining them in and I'm guessing the crowds will be all summer for it. So its a good sign at least. <<The overspend on RSR is entirely down to John Lasseter. Therefore if you love that attraction you have him to thank. He wanted Radiator Springs to be a plussed-up as possible irrespective of the cost.>> I just some of the 'what's next' video and this area looks like it will be amazing! No clue if it will be worth the coin when its done, but I'm more excited now, its all I can say .

Anaheim is a very competitive marketplace and although the three DLR hotels have good occupancies numbers there just isn't the demand for 5* resorts in Anaheim which is the only market that DLR would be interested in - the Grand is just about enough. We all thought that the Main Gate Hotel was a "Go" for construction in '00 as it would have relieved the pressure on the Paradise Pier Hotel and Disneyland Hotel and allowed both of those to be completely remodelled - however it was deemed that there wasn't sufficient demand. It is a shame that full-scale remodelling can't happen on those two ageing hotels - I wanted to demolish both of them and start again. I doubt we will ever see an expansion of the DtD concept - being tied into the cyclical nature of the specialty retail sector isn't what DLR had in mind - having to suffer through two recessions before your tenth anniversary isn't great. Look at how many tenants have come and gone and how many units DLR now managed like Disney Vault and D-Street. There may be scope for more dining but I doubt we will ever see the Phase II development that was on the cards back in '01.

Anyone else notice how nice every new part of DCA is when its revealed? Like the rockwork wall and built-in bench shown in the picture above, with brick lined streets and fancy lightposts. It's all noticeably a couple notches more expressive, and likely more expensive, than the types of surfaces and streetscapes DCA opened with in 2001. It looks great!

While not the most beautiful thing in the world, it certainly isn't bad, and adds a lot of authenticity to the feeling of the area. The only part that kind of bugs me about the new Red Car area by TOT is the big gate on the north side (toward the Animation Building) between TOT and a bug's land. The rest of that area has really nice lush landscaping, and then the gate looks like it's a remant of the walled-in courtyard that made TOT feel so awkward. Out of the plants, there is this enormous gate, with a very tall wall on one side for CM access, and all in the style of the wall surrounding the TOT expansion area. If it was attached to something or themed to fit in with the plants more, it would be better, but it just looks so completely random now.
