San Angel was really disappointing, IMHO. Very, vrey mediocre food, but the setting is good.

    Same for Rose and Crown.

If you think R/C is mediocre, I really don't trust your sense of taste. ;-)

There's nothing special about it, really. I love the bar, but the food is meh.

For me, Le Cellier or Teppan Edo get my votes for the best options in Epcot.

I did enjoy San Angel Inn when we last ate there but that was 10 year ago now, and I hear it is not as good anymore.

I love Le Cellier, but it being almost impossible to get ressies there drops it down on my list.

It use to be good. Now it's absolutely horrible. Store bought chips, and meals that taste like warmed up Mexican TV dinners. The worst service of any restaurant I've ever eatten at.

I've never had a bad meal there in dozens of visits (although the time they ran out of fish and chips and tried passing off the fast food stand version as the entree didn't sit well), but the only great meals there were the result of the spirits I was dining with, not the food.

San Angel Inn was truly wonderful in the 80s and 90s. It also has a special place in my heart because it was the first table serve meal I ever had on Day 1 at EC. But when I went back maybe 6-7 years ago they were serving bag Tostitos and their brand salsa. I couldn't believe the sheer tackiness of such a move as even a strip center Mexican joint bakes its own chips and makes its own salsa. I've never gone back.

Tepan Edo is good, but I have a hard time justifying the pricepoints when I can get much better food (larger portions too) at the Benihana at the DD Hilton and not have to book even a day in advance.

Le Cellier is terribly overrated. Steaks are very good, but not exceptional. But because it is THE Epcot steak place, people go nuts over it. I've now gone almost two years without dining there and doubt I'll return unless it's part of the 'Take a Spirit to Dinner' program.

Chefs de France is fine if you go for onion soup, wine and dessert. Beyond that ... well, it ain't French cuisine.

That stuff is at Bistro de Paris, EPCOT's best dining experience by far. And one that many folks don't realize exists, so it is often blissfully peaceful as foodies tend to descend on it versus DDP folks with their six loud brats.

    Just some thoughts ...

Le Cellier and San Angel are very unique from a UK perspective. Cheddar Cheese soup, pretzel bread, any thing with maple in it and the cobblers are all very difficult if not impossible to get in Europe. So it is a big draw.

As for Teppan Edo, teppanyaki only started to really appear in the UK outside of the big cities in the last 5 years (plus I love talking to the Tokyo DL cast members that seem to work there).

Marrakesh is good, but we can get a lot of that stuff here in the UK too. But the entertainment is great.

I actually find Nine Dragons seriously underrated. I think americans are not so keen because it is not like their local take out. I don't know if things have changed, but last time I went it was the closest to the food I had in Hong Kong.

But to be honest, I would be happy in any of the Epcot table service options. Heck, it is the main reason to go there.

I think your taste buds need an overhaul Spirit. Rose & Crown serves the same fish and chips as per their licensing agreement with Harry Ramsdens in both the dining room and the quick serve window. Has been that way since HR was brought into the park in '99.

San Angel is still an outside vendor - it is entirely their choice if they want to dumb down their offerings. I totally agree - San Angel Inn isn't even close to being the product it was back in the nineties.

Sometimes I really do think we live in two completely different countries Dave. San Angel, cheese soup and pretzel bread are all unique for UK visitors? Chiquitos has been in the UK for as long as I can remember. I wouldn't describe Mexican as "unique" - the other two options are available in any decent supermarket.

Nine Dragons is an unusual menu as it isn't often you find multiple regions on the same menu - typically it will all be Szechuan or Cantonese.

If you can point me in the direction of Mole Poblano in the UK, then I would welcome it. Chiquito's does Tex Mex, not the traditional southern mexican food I remember having in San Angel Inn.

Seriously - you are hanging your argument on one dish? One dish?

<<Chiquito's does Tex Mex, not the traditional southern mexican food I remember having in San Angel Inn.>>

I don't eat at those types of places personally but I'm sure they do a host of Mexican and north of the border stuff. Navajo Joe's in Covent Garden also does their own interpretation of Mexican food.

The point is that the UK probably has the most multi-cultural restaurant population in the world - you can get just about everything here. You make us sound like some sort of backwater.

Based on this, I might rebook there, as that was our second choice.
