It will be sad to see all those fun elements go. I really liked the beach feel and theme of the place but, I understand how it no longer fits with the new look and feel of the whole place.

Won't miss the Maliboomer. Fun ride but, after once or twice, no need to ride again.

In a past post, there was a description of the "lack" of a queue area (compared to WDW) for the Little Mermaid ride. Has anyone heard how they are going to handle that?

Nobody has mentioned the menu of the Mexican restaurant in its new digs. Did it expand? Stay the same?

Forgive me for not remembering but, what took the old Mexican restaurant spot?

Has the Winery restaurant re-opened yet? Loved everything there. Even when we would get a loaf of Sourdough bread and have it with a glass of wine while the Electrical Parade would go by.

    Sighhhhhh...

    So? It wasn't very futuristic.

"The idea was to experience the super highways of TOMORROW."

It sure failed at that. But that's just fanwanking (even if the "fan" in this case is Walt). They're just go-carts.

"The subs were a great addition-- replacing the rather sad little Phantom Boats."

I'm not talking about the quality of the ride; I'm talking about the theming.

"Even the PBs were of tomorrow, though, since they were made of a revolutionary new material, fibreglas."

    You're really reaching here.

"Matterhorn? A mountain fits in most anywhere-- unless you want to believe there will be no mountains 'tomorrow.' It was originally considered a part of TL, and is now considered part of FL."

Why do you think that is? There was nothing futuristic about a bobsled ride.

Yeah, originally. Look at a 1959 E ticket. It says FaL. Look at the attraction poster (which hasn't changed). It says FaL.

The guidebooks did not, strangely, till the early 70's.

    It is?

While they've never really been futuristic, the original theme was at least scientific and attempted to mix education with fun. Granted it was incredibly lame, but at least they tried.

Ah, no. They pretty effectively predicted the coming superhighways.

Guess in hindsight they don't seem like much. But when they were rolled out in 1955, the Autopia cars were quite cutting edge. In terms of theming, if not the "quality of the ride."

    Oh brother.

The theme was Tomorrow, as in the-highways-of-tomorrow. Well represented in futuristic cars with revolutionary fiberglass bodies traveling over futuristic divided highways complete with cloverleaf interchanges. It all seems pretty dull now, but it was a pretty enticing theme before it all came depressingly true within the next decade.

Just because it looks familiar to us now doesn't mean it wasn't themed back then.

Man reading the comments at the bottom about the thoughts about the change and DCA in general, I thought I was bitter lol. Anyway good to see this will be changed soon and if I'm not mistaken, I think once the rest of the entrance goes up in walls, every part of the rehaul will be in construction. WOW!!

What is the estimated time that this ride will come back?

I never even got to ride MM.

That rendering looks different than the one at the Disney.com site at the link below. I wonder which version they are actually doing as the overlay.

    Pointless.

They should tear it down and make something a little more, hmmmm...creative? original? imaginative? I think you understand my feelings for this ride...

I agree, this redo is pointless. I had always assumed that MM was mostly just a placeholder until something else was developed for that spot. Since they are investing more money in it I suppose its shelf life has been extended a bit.
