But when they were rolled out in 1955, the Autopia cars were quite cutting edge. In terms of theming, if not the "quality of the ride."

Well represented in futuristic cars with revolutionary fiberglass bodies traveling over futuristic divided highways complete with cloverleaf interchanges. It all seems pretty dull now, but it was a pretty enticing theme before it all came depressingly true within the next decade. Just because it looks familiar to us now doesn't mean it wasn't themed back then.
